MEETING MINUTES

2013-15Work Plan Outcomes
I.
Coalition members maximize benefit of the Common Core Standards (CCS) and Smarter Balanced (SB) assessment in order to foster a smooth
and productive transition to postsecondary work.
II.
Coalition members provide advice, support and implementation sites to promote success of regional Opportunity Youth Initiative.
III.
Coalition members contribute to policy and practice framework for leveraging the Washington State College Bound (CBS) in order to enhance
students' high school graduation, college persistence and college graduation rates.
IV.
Coalition members define and fulfill key roles and responsibilities associated with service in order to both improve high school graduation, and
postsecondary enrollment, persistence and completion rates across the region.
V.
Coalition members actively support collective action efforts to cultivate and nurture a college going culture.

Efforts to partner with colleges and community based organizations and how these
relationships may strengthen the College Bound program.
Communication strategies with students and families on how to successfully gather all
necessary information required for College Bound student applications.

The added Agenda Item, communication around Common Core and Smarter Balanced Testing
Communication was discussed:
 There is a lack of understanding around Common Core and Smarter Balanced testing and the
loudest feedback tends to come from more privileged communities and families. We need to
consider how to effectively speak to the “why” of Common Core in order to help strengthen
support for SBAC/Common Core.
