Target Words: Bob, job, gob, glob Materials and Preparation A Job for Bob song Gob of Glob with –ob words sheet—1 for each student Blob (play dough, silly putty, or see recipe) –ob Word Cards Pencil—1 for each student Introduce Ask the students, “What is a job? Do you have a job?” Say, “I have a friend named Bob, and Bob has the best job! Bob’s job is to turn a knob (make the motion) to make glob! But, Bob is sick today, so he can’t do his job. Bob needs us to do his job for him.” Playful Practice Show the students glob and explain that glob is gooey and fun to play with. Teach the students the song A Job For Bob. You will decide how fast or slow everyone will work by singing the song fast or slow. You will also decide which action you will do next (e.g., turn the knob with one hand, both hands, both hands and feet, bob your head, bob your head and turn the knob with your hands, bob your head and turn the knob with your hands and feet). Mix 4 teaspoons Borax (from laundry detergent section of grocery store) and 1 1/3 cups warm water in a separate bowl. Pour the first mixture into the second mixture. Do not mix! One person will pretend to be Bob and put on the Bob nametag. Bob will lead the job song. He will decide how quickly everyone will work by singing the song fast or slow. While singing the song, pretend to turn a knob with one hand. 2. Sing the song several more times adding one more body part to the actions each time (e.g., both hands; hands and feet; hands, feet and head). 3. Using the Gob of Glob with –ob words sheet, read a word to your child. Ask him or her to find the word and put a gob of glob over that word. 4. Repeat until all –ob words on the words sheet have been covered with a gob of glob. 5. Have your child take off each gob of glob and read each –ob word (support where needed). Remember to be playful and have fun!
