Clinical and functional relationships of each organ system are emphasized. NEXT COURSE IN SEQUENCE: In most cases, General Physiology is the class to follow Anatomy. DeNeen BIOL 2134 Develop an understanding of the appearance and location of structures of the human body. Gain experience in the use of dissection and other biological laboratory techniques. The student will develop confidence in basic scientific communication skills by applying the appropriate terminology where possible. Teachning Methods: Lecture: Students are responsible for lecture preparation by reading the assigned chapters prior to class. Lectures will be in the form of PowerPoint format and reinforced by class discussions. Laboratory: The lab will consist of one 2 hour and 50 minute period twice per week. Practical application of lecture topics will be stressed and exercises will be complimentary, but not necessarily congruent with lecture sessions. All students should familiarize themselves with the planned lab prior to class. DeNeen BIOL 2134 Grading. Grades Assigned from Total Points Earned: A= 90%-100% B= 80%-89% C=70%-79% D=60%-69% F= less than 60% Examination Rules and Procedures Punctuality!!! Students will arrive in the classroom at the scheduled lecture or final examination date and time. Students will turn off all cell phones and other electronic devices Pens and or pencils are required to take the exam. These are the only materials students will be allowed to have in their possessions. All books, notes, and other materials will be placed along the perimeter of the classroom. Valuables such as purses may be placed under your chair. Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom until the examination is completed. When students complete the exam, please give the exam to the professor. Absentees from the examination will have to provide valid documentation of their absence to take the makeup exam. In addition, before the exam begins, please send an e-mail to whitney_deneen@mail.tulsacc.edu or call 417-894-9607 to inform me of your absence from the exam. Remember academic dishonesty, including cheating on exams, will not be tolerated in this course! Late Assignments AND Make-up Work: Only in extenuating circumstances, such as family crisis, illness, birth, etc., will makeup examinations be provided. Advise your instructor in advance of an absence as a result of such matters. Missed examinations cannot be made up unless justification for being absent is provided before the examination is due. The student must email the instructor by midnight on test day if arrangements need to be made for a makeup. If a student is permitted to makeup a test, the test must be completed within one week of the due date, or the student receives a zero on the examination. In addition, any makeup examinations will not receive curve or extra credit points and will be in a different format from the original exam! All makeup examinations will be taken at the Math Lab Testing Center (Building 8). The hours of the testing center are Mon-Thurs 9:00 am – 7:00 pm. 3 Summer 2012 W. DeNeen BIOL 2134 Homework assignments will not be accepted late for any reason and are due at the beginning of class. At 10 minutes after class has started, homework assignments will not be accepted, and students will be given a zero. Students will receive a zero on homework assignments if they are absent the day they are due. Quizzes given in class will not be made up due to an absence of any reason, and students will be given a zero. Course Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student. INCLEMENT WEATHER AND CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY When severe winter weather hits, you may assume that TCC will be open unless it is announced otherwise on television and radio stations. TCC does not automatically close if Tulsa Public Schools close. If your instructor decides individually to cancel class because of inclement weather or other unexpected reasons, your instructor will contact you. It is important that your instructor have current contact information so you can be notified if necessary.
