Preface 1 of Advent
Indeed it is worthy and right, it is just and brings salvation,
Always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
When he first came, humbly he took upon himself our flesh
And brought the work of the old covenant to its fulfilment.
He has opened for us the way to eternal salvation,
so that when he comes again in the glory of his majesty,
we may receive the gift here promised, revealed at last,
the gift for which we now keep watch
with courage and with hope.
And so with Angels and archangels
With thrones and powers
With all the might of the heavenly host,
We sing the hymn of your glory,
As we declare forever,
Sunday 1 of Advent
All powerful God, we ask this
as Christ your son draws near:
give your faithful people the will
to go out and meet him with works of justice.
So, in the company of those at his right hand,
May they be found worthy to gain heaven’s kingdom.
Lord, accept the gifts we bring before you,
Gathered from your kind gifts to us.
You allow us to perform
this sign of our devotion here in time,
may it win us your redemption in eternity.
We ask you, Lord,
May the mysteries we attend help us.
For we walk in a world that will pass away,
But through them you teach us to love the things of heaven
And to cling to what endures.
Monday 1
Lord our God, we ask you,
Make us attentive as we await the coming of Christ your Son.
When he comes and knocks
may he find us keeping watch in prayer
and rejoicing in his praises.
Lord, accept the gifts we bring before you,
Gathered from your kind gifts to us.
You allow us to perform this sign
of our devotion here in time.
May it win us your redemption in eternity.
We ask you, Lord,
May the mysteries we take part in help us.
For we walk in a world that will pass away,
But through them you teach us to love the things of heaven
And to cling to what endures.
Tuesday 1
Lord God, look on our pleas with favour,
In our struggles grant us the help of your faithful care.
So may we be comforted in the presence of your Son, as he comes,
And no longer stained, polluted by our old ways.
We ask you Lord,
Be pleased with our humble prayers and sacrifices,
And when no merit of ours speaks for us,
Come to our aid and protect us with your mercy.
This food has filled us with the nourishment of the Spirit.
We beseech you, Lord,
By sharing in this mystery,
teach us to judge wisely the things of this world
And to hold fast to the things of heaven.
Wednesday 1
Lord our God, by your divine power,
Make our hearts ready.
when Christ your Son comes,
May we be found worthy of the feast of eternal life,
and justly receive the heavenly food
with the Lord himself attending us.
We ask you Lord,
May the sacrifice we dedicate to you
Be presented without ceasing,
So may it accomplish the purpose of this holy mystery
And powerfully bring us your deliverance.
Merciful Lord, we make our plea,
May this heavenly sustenance
Cleanse us from failings
And make us ready for the coming feast.
Thursday 1
Lord, rouse your might
And come to our aid with your great power.
So may the path our sins obstruct
Be lightened by your reconciling grace.
Friday 1
Rouse up your might and come, we ask you Lord,
With you to protect us
May we be found worthy of rescue
from the dangers threatened by our sins
and with you to liberate us,
worthy of being saved.
Saturday 1
God, you sent your only-born Son into this world
to free humankind from its former state.
As we keep watch with devotion,
gift us from on high
with the grace of your faithful care.
So may we gain the prize of true freedom.
We ask you Lord,
May the sacrifice we dedicate to you
Be presented without ceasing,
So may it accomplish the purpose of this holy mystery
And powerfully bring us your deliverance.
Merciful Lord, we make our plea,
May this heavenly sustenance
Cleanse us from failings
And make us ready for the coming feast.
