Mayor’s Weekly Update September 3, 2010 There were a lot of rough storms last night. There was considerable flooding throughout the City and County. City work crews were very busy throughout the night. The Street Department was busy working to place high water and street closed signs throughout the City. The Waste Water Department was busy working pump stations and responding to Sewer System Overflows (not a good thing if anyone read last night’s edition of the LDR). The Fire Department responded to a number of water rescue calls in the City and the County. The Electric Department had a number of power outages to respond to and they were able to restore power very quickly to the affected areas. Our Police Department was busy directing traffic around the water hazards and handling traffic accidents. The City OEM and County OEM worked hand-in-hand to respond to the incident and direct emergency crews to where they needed to be. There were no reports of tornados within the City but lots of rain (3+ inches in a matter of several hours), high winds, and lightening. The crews will be busy today cleaning up and putting everything back to working order. These men and women worked very hard to keep their City and citizens safe. My thanks to each and every one of them for a job well done. We should have a very nice holiday weekend with temperatures in the high 70’s to low 80’s for the highs and lows should be in the 50’s. I am hoping that fall weather is with us. The Lebanon Police Department will be out in full force with sobriety check points over the holiday weekend. Please do not drink and drive and do drive safely. A number of great events are coming up next week. On Thursday September 9th at the St. Francis De Sales Family Center the Laclede Literacy Council will be holding their 6th Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner. On Friday the 10th at the Cowan Civic Center, the Stop the Abuse Next Door (STAND) holds its first national awareness event with a number of activities, entertainers, and food free to the public. On Saturday September 11th at the Laclede County Government Center a Remembrance and Memorial Service for the events of 9/11 will be held and a special recognition to World War II veterans of Laclede County. I am sure that there is something for everyone at these events. The next City Council meeting is September 13th at 7PM Council Chambers, City Hall. The agenda is shaping up to be rather lengthy but please do join us. The agenda will have a number of items of interest to include the revised City purchasing policy. If you wish to make a comment, ask a question, express a concern, or make an appointment to speak with me; please feel free to e-mail me at mayor@lebanonmo.org or call City Hall 417532-2156 for an appointment.
