SAGE permits immediate deposit of the Accepted Version of an article on “the repository of your
institution without any restrictions”. This means you can deposit your article on ORA through the Green
Route immediately after your article is accepted.
However, “you may not deposit in the repository of another institution or a subject repository … until 12
months after first publication of the article in the journal”. This includes repositories such as Europe
PubMed Central and the ESRC Research Catalogue.
For researchers funded by ESRC and AHRC, this is within the maximum embargo period required for
compliance with the RCUK Open Access Policy through the Green Route.
For researchers in the Sciences not required to publish in a specific subject repository (BBSRC, EPSRC,
NERC STFC), this is within the maximum embargo period required for compliance with the RCUK Open
Access Policy through the Green Route.
For researchers in the Sciences required to publish in a subject repository such as Europe PubMed Central
(MRC), this exceeds the maximum embargo period of 6 months required for compliance with the RCUK
Open Access Policy. If funding for an Article Processing Charge is available, authors should select the Gold
Route.
