Talking Points Volunteer Recruitment The information below covers the key points to share when speaking about Read to Succeed. Community Commitment to Education is a coalition led by United Way of Greater Lafayette, Greater Lafayette Commerce and our three local public school corporations. The first solution they created for our community was Read to Succeed. This program puts volunteers in to local classrooms for 1 hour each week during the school year to help children read at grade level by the time they leave third grade. This matters because children who reach this benchmark are 97 percent more likely to graduate from high school. Read to Succeed began with a summer pilot in 2011, and it has grown steadily each year. This fall, Read to Succeed will be part of all of our public elementary schools. Read to Succeed volunteers are making a difference! IREAD test scores are improving, and teachers report that student attendance and behavior improve when Read to Succeed is part of their classroom. You can help us build on our success by raising your hand to volunteer. If one hour each week feels like a lot, you can share the time commitment with a partner. The bottom line is, nobody can do this alone. Please consider joining us in helping children in our community become strong readers, confident students, and ultimately successful adults. When our children succeed, our whole community benefits. Raise your hand to volunteer with Read to Succeed and change young lives forever.
