SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2013-2014
Below is a list of the scholarships to be awarded by the Department of Political Science for the 2013-2014 academic year.
The application deadline is March 1, 2013. Students must apply online using the Missouri State General Scholarship
Application available at the Office of Student Financial Aid website. In order to be considered for scholarships awarded
with regard to financial need, students must have the results of their current FAFSA on file with the university by no later
than the application deadline. With the exception of the Mazzella Scholarship, all PLS scholarships require that the
recipient be enrolled as a full-time student while he or she is receiving the award money.

DR. ALICE FLEETWOOD BARTEE SCHOLARSHIP ($450)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science, be a senior or rising senior, have an outstanding overall academic
record, and plan to enroll in graduate school or law school.
OLIVIA N. BISCHLER SCHOLARSHIP ($6,000)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science. Preference will be
given to students who are members of a racial minority. Demonstrated financial need will be
given major consideration.
ANDREA & STEPHEN BOUGH SCHOLARSHIP ($450)
Recipient must be an outstanding undergraduate with a declared major in political science. Award will be given without
consideration for financial need.
CURL SCHOLARSHIP IN POLITICAL SCIENCE ($4,000)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science, be at least a junior or rising junior, have a 3.0 GPA overall and a 3.5
GPA in the major, and have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students from Southwest Missouri who
have a rural or small town background.
FRANK DINKA COMPARATIVE POLITICS SCHOLARSHIP ($650)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science, be at least a junior or rising junior, and have completed or be enrolled
in at least 12 hours of political science or comparative politics course work. Recipient must also have a GPA of at least 3.0
overall and at least 3.2 in the major. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.
H. D. HARMON SCHOLARSHIP ($1,400)
Student must be a declared major in political science, be at least a sophomore or rising sophomore, have an overall GPA of
3.0, and have demonstrated financial need.
HORACE HASELTINE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($250)
Recipient must be at least a junior or rising junior in the pre-law curriculum and a member of Phi Alpha Delta, an honorary
society of pre-law students.
HEINLEIN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIP ($650)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science, have completed or be enrolled in at least 12 hours of political science
or international relations course work, and have a GPA of at least 3.0 overall and at least 3.2 in the major. Preference will be
given to students with demonstrated financial need.
FRANK MAZZELLA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($600)
Recipient must be enrolled or accepted in the Master of Global Studies program at Missouri State University, have an overall
undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, and be enrolled in at least six graduate-level credit hours each semester while receiving
the award. Preference will be given to students pursuing an emphasis in international relations and comparative politics, as
well as to students with demonstrated financial need.
KANT PATEL SCHOLARSHIP IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS ($400)
Student must be a declared major in political science, be at least a junior or rising junior, and have completed at least 12
hours in political science. Recipient must also have a GPA of at least 3.0 overall and a GPA of at least 3.3 in political science
and be enrolled in 12 hours each semester. Preference will be given to students who have a demonstrated record of
commitment to public affairs through activities and involvement in civic/community affairs or have displayed a potential to
develop such a commitment. Award will be given without consideration for financial need.
POLITICAL SCIENCE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP ($900)
Recipient must be a declared major in political science, have completed or be enrolled in at least 30 credit hours, including 12
in political science, and have at least a 3.5 GPA in the major. Award will be given without consideration for financial need.
JUDGE JACK A. POWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($700)
Recipient must be a declared political science major, be at least a junior or rising junior, and be pursuing a career in law,
leading to a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree. Recipient must also have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
