Dear Parents and Guardians:
We are excited that your son or daughter will soon be a freshman at Joel E. Ferris High School! This marks the
beginning of an exciting and important four years for both you and your student. We invite you to our 9th Grade
Registration Night on Wednesday, January 14, from 5:30 to 8:00pm in our gym. This registration event is
intended for 8th Grade students and parents and is a first step in making sure your daughter or son has a successful
freshman year. During this evening, students and parents select classes for 9th grade during small group sessions
with counselors, administrators, and teachers. Representatives from middle school will be on hand as well.
Each student’s transition to high school is important to us. We are proud of the comprehensive academic and
activities programs offered to our students. In addition to registering for high school classes, we are looking forward to
introducing you to additional programs offered at Ferris, as well as reviewing graduation requirements pertinent to 9 th
graders and answering questions you and your student may have about entering high school.
In the next few weeks, your student will practice registration with Ferris administrators and counselors at their middle
schools. To prepare for January 14th, we recommend you review the 9th grade Registration Form, enclosed, with the
9th grade Elective Course Offerings on the bottom of the registration form. Information can also be found on our
website at www.ferrishs.org. We encourage you to discuss course selections with your son or daughter prior to
January 14th. We have included How Ferris Stacks Up and a list of our extracurricular activities for students, so you
can be assured that your child will have a rigorous yet relevant and enjoyable educational experience at Ferris.
Finally, all 8th grade students planning to attend Ferris will come to an 8th Grade Move-Up Day on Friday, May 29th.
Students will be bussed from their middle schools to Ferris, so it is very important for your son or daughter to be in
attendance on May 29th. Students will visit classes and programs during the school tour and have the opportunity to
learn about sports, clubs, and “life at Ferris” from our own teachers and students.
Our staff is committed to your student’s success and sincerely looks forward to welcoming your student to the Ferris
community! We hope you will take an active part in planning your student's program and will be able to attend the
9th Grade Registration Night Wednesday, January 14th.
