Calculus uses the concept of limits to study rates of change. Students will learn how to find and use a rate of change function, called a derivative. What is AP? AP stands for advanced placement courses. The College Board had approved the content of this course as equivalent to a university Calculus I course. Students will have the opportunity to take a national placement test to possibly receive college credit for this course. Materials Pencil, paper, and graphing calculator. Please refer to THS calculator policy for acceptable calculators. Required Text Larson, Hosteller, Edwards 7th edition Calculus. Students are responsible for all damages to textbooks. Grading 60% of a student’s grade will be based on test and quiz scores. 20% will be daily work, graded assignments, AP problems, problem packets and projects. A trimester grade will be computed with a final exam worth 20% of the total grade. Calculator usage A calculator may not be used in the first chapter of the course. Part of the AP exam is non-calculator and students need to be able to perform several precalculus operations without the use of technology. Students will also learn how to utilize graphing calculator features to perform many calculus operations. Testing policy Electronic devices (other than approved calculators) may not be in your possession during a test. A place to keep those devices will be provided.
