CONGRATULATIONS! For many of our students, Bergen Community College is the first step to meeting their educational and career goals. Upon completion of an associate’s degree, many of our graduates continue their education towards a bachelor’s degree at a four year institution. Bergen Community College graduates have successfully transferred to colleges and universities throughout the state and across the nation. Things to Consider Before You Graduate: If you intend to continue to take classes at BCC in your current curriculum, do not graduate just yet. Why? Courses taken after you officially graduate are not protected by the State wide Transfer Agreement and are not guaranteed to be considered transferable to the four year school. Your GPA (grade point average) is fixed upon graduation. If you wish to improve your GPA by retaking classes, do not graduate just yet. Retake the courses with poor grades; raise your GPA and then graduate. If you received a communication of graduation eligibility and you wish to change or postpone your graduation date contact: Projectgraduation@bergen.edu If you received a communication of graduation eligibility and you have questions: Schedule an appointment with a Transfer Counselor in the Center for Student Success, Room A-118, Pitkin Education Center, 201-447-7211 Transfer Legislation Clarified Transferring from New Jersey’s community colleges to the state’s public four-year institutions will be streamlined under the terms of the measure signed into law by Governor Jon Corzine on September 13, 2007. Students who earn the A.A. degree or A.S. degrees (transfer programs) will find that the public institutions will grant them full credit for General Education requirements when the bill is fully implemented in the Fall of 2008. Graduates with these degrees will be guaranteed transfer of one half of the number of credits required for the Bachelor’s degree at the college they transfer to. Courses taken after officially graduating are not guaranteed to be transferable to the four year school. A.A.S. degrees (career programs) are NOT covered by this legislation and not all community college courses are guaranteed to transfer. Courses required in a specific major may still be evaluated for transfer to the major by individual departments at the four-year colleges. Courses taken in career or technical areas are not covered by the legislation, and may not be accepted in transfer. Admission to the four-year public colleges will NOT be guaranteed by this legislation – students will have to meet the academic and grade-point -average requirements set by the individual colleges as admission guidelines.
