Over a 1000 Luton Sixth Form College students achieve outstanding A level and
BTEC Level 3 Diploma results
Over 1000 students took A levels and BTEC Level 3 Diplomas and the results exceeded all
expectations.
There was a pleasing increase in the A level pass rate which now stands at 97.6%. A total of
807 A level students sat almost 2000 examinations, with over 42% achieving the top grades.
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma results, the general vocational qualifications equivalent to two full
A levels, were also outstanding, with an overall pass rate of 97.7%. This included six courses
with a pass rate of 100%. 292 students successfully completed the BTEC Level 3 Diploma, with
105 students gaining Distinctions, equivalent to two A grades at A level. Continuing this
remarkable trend, the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma, equivalent to one full A level, had a pass
rate of 100%.
Each year over 600 students go on to study at universities across the country. This year the
number included several students with outstanding grades securing places at Oxford or
Cambridge. This included Niloy Biswas, a former student of Denbigh High School, who
achieved four A* grades. He said, “This is fantastic! I found out this morning that I had got
into Oxford to study Mathematics and I am so happy. I can’t thank the College enough for all
the help and support they have given me.”
The highly experienced Careers Team at the College have been working successfully with
those students that didn’t quite get the grades for their first choice of university course and
are confident that all students will get a place at university through the clearing process.
Particularly outstanding individual A level and BTEC Level 3 Diploma results include:Emma Dixon, formerly of Putteridge High School, studied Law, Psychology, English Language &
Literature, and achieved A*A*A* grades respectively. Nicola is going to read English at Cambridge
University.
Sidney Belony, formerly of Denbigh High School, studied History, English Literature, Spanish and French
and achieved A*AAB* grades respectively. Sidney is going to read History at Cambridge University.
Taslima Hussain, formerly of Denbigh High School, studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics,
Chemistry and Biology, and achieved A*A*A*A grades respectively. Taslima is going to read
Mathematics at Imperial College, London.
Shaman Dolly, formerly of Cardinal Newman High School, studied Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics
and achieved A*A*A* grades respectively. Shaman is going to read Medicine at Queen Mary University
London.
Rosie Kelby, formerly of Icknield High School, studied English Language & Literature, Mathematics,
French and Art & Design, and achieved A*A*AA grades respectively. Rosie is going to read English &
American Literature at the University of Birmingham.
Tamara Clarke, formerly of Icknield High School, studied Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and
achieved AAA grades respectively. Tamara is going to read Medicine at the University of Liverpool.
Robert Sarney, formerly of Barnfield South Academy, studied Mathematics Biology and Chemistry and
achieved A*AA grades respectively. Robert is going to read Biological Sciences at the University of
Leicester.
Stephen Moore, formerly of Barnfield West Academy, studied Mathematics, English Language,
Economics and Physics and achieved A*A*AA grades respectively. Stephen is going to read Economics
at the University of Bristol.
Aqeela Ahmed, formerly of Emperia College, studied Level 3 Diploma in Medical Science and achieved a
Double Distinction*(equivalent to A*A* at A Level). Aqeela is going to read Radiotherapy at the
University of Hertfordshire.
Andrew Olde, formerly of Icknield High School, studied Level 3 Diploma in Sport and achieved a Double
Distinction*(equivalent to A*A* at A Level). Andrew is going to read Sports Coaching at the University
of Brighton.
Deborah Davinson, formerly of Stopsley High School, studied Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design and
achieved a Double Distinction*(equivalent to A*A* at A Level). Deborah is going to take a gap year.
Principal of the College, Chris Nicholls said “It has been another outstanding year and we are
delighted with the fantastic achievements of our students. We are particularly pleased with
the improvement in our pass rates enabling our students to take up their places at some of
the best universities. The most gifted and talented young people in the area choose to study
with us every year and they are brilliantly supported by some of the best teaching and
support staff in the country. I am very proud of their results, all of which are the outcome of
first rate teaching, superb guidance for students, our fantastic campus and, most importantly,
the amazing efforts of the students themselves. They have worked harder than ever before
and thoroughly deserve their success”.
Cherry Newbery, Chair of the College’s Governors, added, “The results demonstrate yet again
just how successful an inclusive and specialist institution such as Luton Sixth Form College can
be in enabling young people from the local High Schools to achieve magnificent exam results
and realise their true potential. The vast majority of our students will go on to university or
employment and make a real difference to our local and national economy. The governors
are extremely proud that our students have done so well and would like to thank the staff for
their superb work in supporting them so effectively.”
