University of Northern Iowa College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Professional Writing Reports to: Sarah Pauls, Marketing Manager, sarah.pauls@uni.edu Terms of Employment: For the fall semester: 20 hours per week, beginning August 24, 2015 and ending December 18, 2015. Does not include the week of Thanksgiving Break. Compensation: Full assistantship salary is $4,920 per semester. Salary is prorated on a weekly basis for late start. For more information on the Graduate Assistantship System and procedures: http://www.grad.uni.edu/assistantships/ Position Description: The CHAS Graduate Assistantship for Professional Writing is designed to provide a graduate student with an opportunity to professionally write and assist with the editing of the college’s annual alumni magazine, Communiqué. Duties would include: seeking out stories, interviewing, researching, writing stories, gathering extra content such as images, and supporting the CHAS Marketing Manager with editing as needed. An ideal candidate would be able to write professionally and creatively on topics of academic and alumni interest. The candidate would be expected to be personable, timely and capable of completing many stories over the duration of the position with finalizing the writing by the end of the semester. Copyediting and proofreading skills are a must. Qualifications: Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI graduate program Must be enrolled in 9 graduate credits each semester of assistantship. Maintain a Plan GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00.
