For more information please visit our website: Employment with the State of New Mexico Purpose of Position: The position is responsible for graphical design in support of Education and Marketing outreach and will develop designs for permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits, from design conception and development to production and installation. This position will conceptualize exhibition spaces with attention to curatorial interpretation, artifact conservation, educational goals, budget, fabrication techniques and materials, time frames and deadlines. The position will serve as a lead project coordinator and interfaces and will collaborate with exhibits staff, curators, and educators in producing final exhibit designs. This position will have extensive use of computers and design software to produce graphics and illustrations in support of advertising and campus-wide information dissemination. The position will create exhibits, create illustrations, plans, shop drawings, and detail lists for use by fabricators and curators for construction exhibits. This position will actively participate in a team setting to accomplish department and exhibit goals and deadlines. This position will research and make recommendations for software and hardware purchases or upgrades. This position will employ principles of preventative conservation in exhibit design and installation using methods and materials as recommended by the Collections Manager/Registrar. This position will actively participate in exhibit installations and tear down which may include utilizing hand and power tools, ladders and/or scaffolds. This position is a Pay Band 60. CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION: Set and Exhibit Designers-Advanced MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Design, Architecture, Applied Arts, Fine Arts, or Graphic Design or related field and two (2) years of experience in exhibition design and/or fabrication. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education experience. Long periods of computer exposure, typing, drawing, and use of hand or power tools when building exhibits. Work in high noise environments. Occasional travel by state vehicle as required by the museum to work on an exhibition project.
