K-SEC Meeting Summary March 2, 2015 Here is a summary of the materials we read at the K-SEC meeting on March 2, 2015. Effective this meeting, we read and discuss only two materials at each meeting. This is intended to provide an ample time to discuss the materials by the members. Also, I am making the meeting summary as brief as possible effective this one. I do not know how this is going to affect the 復習ノート that is professionally prepared by Tsurumoto-san. A. Attendees (in ABC order): Ishiguro, Kanzawa, Kotake, Nishimura, Nishiwaki, Sadayasu, Tomozawa, Tsurumoto, Umemura (Total of 9) B. Materials read: 1. Rehabilitation robotics – Umemura This is a Wikipedia article. Rehabilitation robotics is a field of research dedicated to understanding and augmenting rehabilitation through the application of robotic devices. Such robots are used mainly as therapy aids instead of assistive devices. Rehabilitation using robotics is useful for individuals suffering from motion impairments, especially due to stroke. The robotics was introduced two decades ago for patients with neurological disorders. It is critical for these robots are designed and put together carefully as they work with humans who are disables and can react quickly in case something goes wrong. The number of rehabilitation robotics has grown (mostly in the U.S.) but still limited as they must go through extensive clinical tests. 1 The rehabilitation robotics therapy for the stroke patients, as an example, has grown significantly with potential for cheaper and more effective therapy. Umemura-san, who presented this material, feels particularly close to the article as he had to go through hard rehabilitation period after he suffered from a subarachnoid hemorrhage some time ago. 2. Bio series – Toten Miyazaki - Sadayasu Here is another Wekipedia article. A Japanese man, named Toten Miyazaki, supported Sun Yat-sen (孫逸仙 or 孫文) to build the foothold and raise funds for Chinese Revolution of 1911. Sun recognized Miyazaki as a friend of his life. This spirit is being carried on to the current Chinese Communist Government and invited Toten descendants as National Guests of Honor to their 50th Anniversary commemorating the birth of Sun Yat-sen. The Miyazaki’s were seated next to Mao Zedong and Zhou Enrai at the ceremony. Miyazaki Toten was born in Arao, Kumamoto prefecture in 1871 as the fourth son to a family of lower class samurai Masakata Miyazaki and his wife Saki. When Toten was 22 years old, his elder brother Yazou told him that the rise and fall of China would have a clue to regain freedom and human rights for the Asian people and insisted that Toten should devote his life to Chinese Revolution. Toten sympathized with his brother's thought and, in fact, spent the rest of his life in pursuing his brother’s dream. After having met Sun in Tokyo in 1897, he found Sun to be the man to achieve the revolution and supported him and his colleagues with their needs for logistics (including weapons) and funds as assisted by prominent Japanese Government officials including Inukai Tsuyoshi and Okuma Shigenobu. Sun and his colleagues eventually succeeded overthrowing the Quing dynasty in 1911. Even now, all Chinese ambassadors to Japan visit the Miyazaki family upon their first arrival in Japan. C.
