July 2014 Kevin Eastman Kevin Eastman was raised in Haddonfield, New Jersey, and attended the University of Richmond, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He was a scholarship student-athlete at Richmond, and in recognition of his unique qualities as a basketball player, the University created the Kevin Eastman Award. The award, which has been awarded just five times in program history, is given to a player that exemplifies the qualities of team leadership, dedication, and outstanding play. Eastman was inducted into the Hall of Fame at both Haddonfield Memorial High School and the University of Richmond. After college, Kevin played briefly for an AABA professional team, and then continued his love of basketball through coaching. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, University of Richmond in 1978 and spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at the collegiate level including VCU, Colorado State, and Tulsa. In addition, he was head coach at Belmont Abbey for three years, Washington State for five years, and UNC Wilmington for four years. In 2000 Kevin created Kevin Eastman Basketball Camps, llc (KEB) with a mission to provide quality teaching and skill development in a more intense environment than many youth camps. KEB offered skill development camps for ten years, and has now grown to include instructional video, coaching clinics and other events. Kevin Eastman Basketball continues to be recognized as offering the best in individual skill development, motivation, career enhancement, and how to teach the game. In addition to operating KEB, Kevin began serving as Nike Basketball’s National Director of Player Development for the nation’s elite college and high school players. This relationship with Nike began in 2003 and continues today through Nike Skills Academies and as a regular speaker to Nike audiences. Eastman joined the Celtics coaching staff for the 2004-05 as an assistant coach under Doc Rivers. In 2008 the Celtics were NBA World Champions, and in 2010, the Celtics reached the NBA Finals under their leadership. Eastman also coached in two prestigious NBA All-Star games featuring the best NBA (2008 and 2010). Kevin was with Coach Rivers in Boston for 9 seasons and in 2013 moved with Doc to the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2013-14 season. In June 2014, Eastman was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations with the Clippers. In 2008, Eastman developed the concept of Coaching U LIVE, a unique coaching event for coaches. In addition to Eastman and Brendan Suhr, the co-founders, Coaching U LIVE brings in other NBA coaches and well-known experts in basketball, leadership and motivation to speak to coaches of all levels. Now in its sixth year, Coaching U LIVE is gaining the reputation as the most educational and informative coaching event in the country. Eastman is an internationally known basketball clinician who brings his knowledge and experiences in the sports world to the corporate world. He has spent the last several off-seasons speaking to corporate audiences on topics including world championship culture, teamwork, motivation and success. Kevin and his wife Wendy, who serves as Vice President for KEB, have a son Jake who played college basketball and graduated from Bradley University.
