1. POLICY
This resilience store is owned by: [insert name of parish / town council here].
During a flood, equipment within the resilience store will be distributed according to need. Priority
will be given to residents that are most vulnerable and unable to acquire their own supplies.
Volunteers involved in transporting or deploying flood protection equipment should use appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Examples include:
 High-visibility clothing
 Water-proof gloves
 Wellies
 Wading poles
 Torches.
People that receive resources from this store will be responsible for disposing of the equipment
once it is no longer usable. Any equipment that remains suitable for use after a flood should be
returned to: [insert details here].
Home-owners and businesses remain responsible for protecting their properties from flooding and
are strongly encouraged to consider purchasing some form of flood protection if they believe their
property is at risk. Households that rely upon sandbags to protect their property should purchase
them in advance from local DIY stores, building merchants or online retailers.
The National Flood Forum’s ‘Blue Pages’ directory lists a variety of flood protection products, many
of which can be stored safely and hygienically inside properties until they need to be used. The
National Flood Forum can be contacted for independent advice on 01299 403 055 and a copy of
the ‘Blue Pages’ is available online at: www.bluepages.org.uk
Before purchasing a particular product, please check it has been tested to industry standards. It
should display the Kitemark symbol or equivalent accreditation if it has been tested properly.
Information on flooding, including a list of frequently asked questions, is available at:
