Dr Sanjay Singh Negi Awarded Honorary Diploma in Transplantation Surgery by European Board of Surgery. The European Board of Surgery conferred Honorary Diploma in Liver Transplantation Surgery upon Dr Sanjay Singh Negi in the recently conducted Fellowship examination at Romania in September 2012. In recognition of Dr. Negi’s outstanding contribution to the field of Liver Transplantation, the European Board of Surgeons unanimously decided to waive off the mandatory requirement of appearing in the examination. He is the first Indian to receive such an Honorary Diploma. The European Board of Surgery is an elite board of reputed surgeons that ensures best standard of care in the professional practice of transplantation surgery and bestows honors upon only the best surgeons of the world in their chosen field of specialization. Dr Negi was born in Haldwani and completed his primary education from Nirmala Convent School, Kathgodam and Birla Vidya Mandir, Nanital. He cleared the All India PMT exam and got his MBBS degree from Goa, Medical College in 1994. He subsequently cleared the All India Pre PG examination and was awarded MS degree in Surgery from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. He then joined G.B Pant Hospital New Delhi, where he was conferred MCh degree in the Superspeciality of G. I Surgery. G.B Pant Hospital has the distinction of being one of the only three centers in the country which offered this course, at that time. He also has the distinction of being the youngest qualified G.I Surgeon in India when he completed his MCh at a young age of 29 yrs. His quest for excellence did not end here and he continued to progress academically and has travelled to international centres of excellence to achieve this goal. Dr Negi has been a faculty in some of the best hospitals which include Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, G. B Pant Hospital and Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, New Delhi. He helped in the development of the subspeciality of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation and established first such recognized department of the nation at Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, New Delhi where he was Professor and Head of the department. Dr. Negi also established India’s first successful Liver Transplant programme in the government sector for all those patients who could not afford this treatment in the private hospitals. Besides he has the unique distinction of initiating the first Superspeciality course in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation in India, which is also recognized by the Medical Council of India. He has regularly published in international journals of repute in the field of Gastro-intestinal, Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic diseases. He has shown a phenomenal professional growth during the past decade and his work is well acknowledged in international community as shown by his active participation in various conferences as invited speaker and nomination as member of the editorial board and reviewer of the very best journals of his chosen field. In his most recent assignment, he has shifted to BLK Superspeciality Hospital, New Delhi with his entire team of over 30 professionals, where he has been appointed as the Director and Senior Consultant of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation. He has established a state of art facility for the management of the diseases of Liver, Gall Bladder, Bile Duct, Pancreas and intestines. The department offers both conventional open surgery as well as laparoscopic surgical procedures to his patients. His team also has a special interest in management of cancers of intestines, stomach, food pipe, gall bladder, liver, bile duct and pancreas. He has not only achieved academic and professional laurels but has also contributed to the management of diseases and has reduced the burden of pain and agony from his patients. His contribution to the field of medicine has made his entire state feel proud of him.
