Palliative Care: I have spent 4 months working for 1 day per week as an SHO at the Hayward House Hospice at Nottingham City Hospital as part of an ‘Innovative Training Post’. This afforded valuable hands-on experience in facets of palliative care including pain control, symptom relief and psychological support for patients and their families. I would be very keen to develop this interest should I work in a practice with a local hospice. Minor Surgery: I enjoy involvement in all aspects of minor surgery, having attended a 2 day minor surgical skills course and completed a number of procedures including cautery and curettage, excision of lipomas, sebaceous cysts and joint injections (shoulder and knee). I hope to continue to develop this interest in the future. IT Skills - Fluent use of EMIS (LV + PCS) and SystemOne. Career Plan Immediately following completion of my training I am keen to gain experience in Derbyshire through locum work. I feel this would be a good way to develop my clinical skills and gain a broader view of primary care in the area with a view to settling into a permanent post in due course. Activities & Interests My wife, Becky, and I love getting out in Derbyshire - walking in the Peaks, exploring local towns and making the most of our National Trust membership! I also enjoy travel, and have learned much during team expeditions abroad - to the Philippines offering youth work in rural communities and to Zambia teaching sciences to sixth-formers. My medical elective was spent in Bihar, North India, where I gained much insight into the challenges of practicing medicine with very limited resources. I enjoy music and have participated in various orchestras and ensembles playing the French Horn. I ski and windsurf to an intermediate level, and have completed a PADI Open Water Diver Qualification.
