37.5 hrs per week - fixed term contract for 6 months
20 days and 12 statutory days per year pro rata
A mileage allowance is paid in respect of mileage undertaken in the course of business
The postholder will work as part of EBM’s furniture restoration team. The overall aim of the project
is to repair and restore items donated through our second-hand furniture shops – re:store. Items will
then be sold through the re:store shops and profits go towards the wider work of EBM.
Main areas of responsibility
Re -upholstery of stock
1. Supervision and training of volunteers and placements candidates in upholstering
2. Assess the condition of furniture to decide on the best way to restore or conserve it
3. Upholstery of antique and modern furniture including traditional chairs and seating
4. Assist in the recycling of reusable materials
5. Sourcing materials for use in the upholstery process
6. Travelling to a variety of locations to work on pieces in our re:store shops
7. Use of hand tools, power tools, machines, and shop equipment
8. Use of materials, such as leather, fabric, rubber, cork, fibreglass, and plastic
9. Following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints, using chalk, pencil, paint, or other
methods
10. Use staples, glues, and cements materials to assemble upholstery or trim items
11. Other reasonable tasks as required, including working at other re:store locations.

1. Adhere to all legislative Health and Safety requirements including COSHH
2. Adhere to all East Belfast Mission Health and Safety requirements
Personnel specification
Essential
1. Proven experience in all aspects of upholstery including
 refurbishing
 reupholstering
2. Experience of supervising staff
3. Excellent design and creativity skills
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
5. A good level of technical ability to deal with the detailed and delicate nature of the work
6. Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative
Desirable
1. Relevant qualification in furniture restoration e.g. BTEC HND NVQ, City & Guilds
2. Experience of cutting and sewing
Other information
This position gives the post holder access to vulnerable adults and will therefore be required to
disclose details of any criminal convictions, including spent, bind-over orders and cautions in
accordance with the Access NI Vetting and Baring Scheme and our organisation’s Protection of
Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedure. An AccessNI check will be carried out, and in applying for
this position, you are in agreement for the organisation to carry out this necessary check.
