Step 2: Apply for ACMP Chapter Affiliation – What you need to know The first step in forming an ACMP chapter is to choose a region for your chapter, and to gauge the size of your local change management community and their level of interest in a local ACMP chapter. When you know that there enough change management professionals in your area who are interested in an ACMP chapter, you are ready to form your ACMP chapter as a legal entity and officially affiliate it with ACMP Global. The 5-8 person team engaged in step one will meet for the next 6 – 9 months to get to affiliation. The formation team will meet regularly to make decisions and complete administrative tasks, as listed above. Chapter affiliation requirements Apply for affiliation with a chapter application. This puts your organization in Potential Chapter Status mode. Establish your chapter with the following: o Create bylaws in compliance with ACMP Global by laws. Examples of bylaws can be found in the Chapter Resource Library. Each state/territory has requirements for bylaws in accordance to filing non-profit status. o Engage a Board of Directors. This may or may not be the initial interest group. Your bylaws will detail how you choose and elect a Board. o Become a legal non-profit entity (as per your country rules) o Open a bank account. Prior to opening a bank account you will need your non-profit declaration from the state/government and your Tax ID number (EIN number). o Evaluate needs for insurance. o Create website or social media presence Develop Communications, Membership, Chapter Event, and Sponsorship plans Hold at least one chapter event. Recruit at least 25 ACMP members for chapter participation Submit all information to ACMP Global for approval and affiliation Schedule regular check in meetings with your CFC contact Your Chapter formation team is solely responsible for the costs associated with establishing your chapter as a legal entity. When you are ready to pursue legal chapter formation and affiliation, you must submit a chapter application at [insert hyperlink]. To complete the application, be prepared to specify the geography that your region will cover and to provide the names of at least 4 of the individuals who are part of your chapter’s formation team (individuals who are dedicated to the time and effort required to form the chapter). ACMP Global and the Chapter Formation Committee will review all of the documentation that you submit, and if everything is in order, they will recommend you to the ACMP Board of Directors to be approved for affiliation. If your Chapter receives Board approval, ACMP Global will provide you with a Chapter Affiliation Agreement to sign, which initiates the legal affiliation between you and ACMP Global. The process for preparing for chapter affiliation is as follows: Assess the Interest & Sustainability of a Chapter Assign roles and responsibilities Review chapter formation guidelines (see above) Set a plan and timeline for formation Apply for Affiliation Decide what geography you will cover Hold an event to gauge chapter interest Identify local organizations who can offer support through sponsorship Sustain Chapter Communications Membership management Chapter events Legal formation Board recommendation for affiliation * At this point, all members of your chapter’s Board of Directors must be ACMP members in good standing.
