Important Information
 The Winner will be leading the Parade at Sam Boyd Stadium prior to the
football game!
 A trophy will be put in the Student Union case located on the first floor
with their name on a plaque and saved for future years!
 Winner will also be awarded the “Rebel Baton” as a sign of being the most
spirited Rebel on campus!
Thank you for registering for the 4th Annual Most Spirited Rebel Competition! This event is
brought to you by the Rebel Pride Council Rebel Spirit Committee in association with
Homecoming Week.
As contestants, you are required to perform certain spirited tasks at the Window Decoration
Competition, Campus Rally, and Campfire Social on Monday, November 8th; Rebel Variety
Show on Tuesday, November 9th; Comedy Night on Wednesday, November 10th; and UNLV
Basketball Game on Friday, November 12th. The winner will be announced at the UNLV
Basketball Game on Friday and must be able to attend the Homecoming Parade and Game on
Saturday, November 13th. Please read below for more information about what is required for the
Most Spirited Rebel events throughout the week of Homecoming.
The Rebel Spirit Committee will review all of the applications and select the most qualified
Rebels who aspire to become the Most Spirited Rebel. The application may be found online at

The registration deadline is Monday, October 25th at 10:00 a.m. and the top contestants
will be notified on Tuesday, October 26th by a Pride Patrol member unexpectedly!
Top 10 Contestants:
“Painting the Rebel” @ Window Decoration Competition
Monday, November 8th, 11:00am-1:00pm, Student Union Pida Plaza

11:30am: Contestants must arrive at the Window Decoration Contest on Monday,
November 8th by 11:30am sharp. You must come decked out in UNLV gear. Points will be
awarded based on original dress. Please report to the RPC table, where Annie Atencio will be
for check-in.

11:40-12:00pm: Each contestant must complete a drawing of Hey Reb on an assigned
window. Materials will be provided. Points will be awarded based on accuracy, creativity and
enthusiasm.
“Introducing the Contestants” @ Campus Rally
Monday, November 8th, 11:00am-1:00pm, Student Union Pida Plaza

12:45pm: After the speakers, the top 10 Most Spirited Rebel contestants will be announced
on stage. You must come decked out in UNLV gear. No points will be awarded for this
event. Meet Annie Atencio behind the stage at 12:40pm for check-in.
“Singing the Fight Song” @ Campfire Social
Monday, November 8th, 7:00pm-9:00pm, Student Recreation and Wellness
Center Lawn (In between Dayton complex and SRWC)

7:00pm: Contestants must arrive at the Campfire Social on Monday, November 8th by
7:00pm sharp. You must come decked out in UNLV gear. Points will be awarded based on
original dress. Please report to the RPC table, where Annie Atencio will be for check-in.

8:00pm: Each contestant must sing the UNLV Fight Song. Points will be awarded based on
accuracy, creativity and enthusiasm.

Six contestants will continue on to the next round based on the scores for the application;
original UNLV spirited dress; the most accurate, creative and spirited drawings; and the most
accurate, creative and spirited rendition of the UNLV Fight Song.

The contestants with the lowest scores at this point will be dropped from the competition, but
are highly encouraged to attend the remaining events of the competition.
The top 6 Contestants:
“Ask the Rebel” @ Rebel Variety Show
Tuesday, November 9th, 7:00pm, Student Union Ballroom

2:00pm: The remaining 6 contestants are required to attend this event. You must arrive at
the Student Union Ballroom for the Rebel Variety Show Final Rehearsal at 2:00pm for
a run through of your duties. You do not have to come dressed in your spirited attire for
the practice.

6:30pm: Please arrive by 6:30pm dressed in spirited UNLV gear. Creativity and originality
will count! The audience will help choose the winner by votes, so try to make a
REBELIOUS impression!

Every contestant will be asked a series of UNLV trivia questions (3) before performing an
original spirited cheer. All contestants will sing the fight song together. Points will be
awarded based on the number of questions answered correctly, originality, and enthusiasm!

The votes of the Rebel Variety Show judges for “Ask the Rebel”, votes from the Rebel
Variety Show audience, and all points accumulated before this event will be tallied and the
top four contestants will move on to the next round at Comedy Night.

The contestants with the lowest scores at this point will be dropped from the competition, but
are highly encouraged to attend the remaining events of the competition.
The Final Four Contestants:
“Dance like a Rebel” @ Comedy Night
Wednesday, November 10th, 7:00pm, Student Union Theatre

The final four contestants will be competing in a dance competition that will put the
contestants to the ultimate spirited test.

Points will be awarded based on participation and how spirited and entertaining each
contestant is throughout the dance-off.

6:00pm: Contestants must arrive no later than 6:00pm at the RPC table with Annie Atencio
for check-in and a full explanation of the dance-off competition and rules.
Most Spirited Rebel Competition Winner:
“Proclaim the Most Spirited Rebel” @ UNLV Basketball Game
Friday, November 12th, 7:30pm, Thomas & Mack Arena

6:30pm: The final four contestants are required to attend this event. Meet with Annie Atencio
outside the student entrance to the arena at 6:30pm sharp, so she can escort you to your
assigned area in the arena.

TBD: 2009-2010 MOST SPIRITED REBEL David Hudnell and Rebel Spirit Director Annie
Atencio will reveal the 2010-2011 MOST SPIRITED REBEL. Also, at this time, last year’s
winner will present the Most Spirited Rebel with the “Rebel Baton,” which is the highest
Rebel Spirit award on campus that belongs to the Most Spirited Rebel.
“Carrying the Baton” @ Homecoming Parade
Saturday, November 13th, 5:00pm, Sam Boyd Stadium

4:15pm: The Most Spirited Rebel will be required to arrive at the parade check-in table
no later than 4:15pm. The Parade itself begins at 5:00pm. More information about the
Parade will be given once the winner is announced at the UNLV Basketball Game.

The MOST SPIRITED REBEL will be a part of the Homecoming Parade with the “Rebel
Baton” in hand.
“Carrying the Flag” @ Homecoming Football Game Kickoff
Saturday, November 13th, 6:55pm, Sam Boyd Stadium

6:30pm: The Most Spirited Rebel will be required to arrive at the northwest corner of
the football field no later than 6:30pm. More information about leading the football team
onto the field while carrying the flag will be given once the winner is announced at the
UNLV Basketball Game.

The MOST SPIRITED REBEL will lead the football team onto the field while carrying one
of the UNLV flags.
“Recognizing the Rebel” @ Homecoming Halftime Show
Saturday, November 13th, 8:30pm, Sam Boyd Stadium

8:00pm: The Most Spirited Rebel will be required to arrive at the northwest corner of
the football field no later than 10 minutes before the end of the 2nd quarter. More
information about the Halftime Show will be given once the winner is announced at the
UNLV Basketball Game.
*If you are unable to attend a portion of the competition because of class, please contact Annie

*The number of contestants competing at each stage is subject to change at the discretion of the
Rebel Spirit Committee.
Competition Rules and Guidelines

Positive competition: There will be no degrading of other contestants or other schools
throughout the competition. Foul language will NOT be tolerated. Breaking this rule will
result in a 15 point deduction from your overall score (15 point for each occurrence).

Clothing is a requirement: Throughout the competition creativity is extremely encouraged
with clothing, costumes, etc. Wearing only items such swimsuits and underwear is NOT
permitted and will result in a 15 point deduction from your overall score.

Good standing: Participants must have at least a 2.0 GPA and a clean student conduct
record to partake in the competition. By applying to be in this competition, you grant the
Office of Civic Engagement & Diversity (formerly known as the Student Involvement &
Activities office) the right to check your grades and conduct record.

Points: This is a participation based competition. For every event you will receive points.
The points will be added together for the overall score. The contestant with the highest
overall score will be crowned the 2010-2011 MOST SPIRITED REBEL!

Remember to have fun and bring out your inner most Rebel throughout this competition.
Be creative and spirited.
Competition Point System
The Most Spirited Rebel will be scored in five different parts.
1. Application score
2. “Painting the Rebel” contest score
3. “Singing the Fight Song” contest score
4. “Ask the Rebel” contest score
5. “Dance Like a Rebel” contest score
6. Rebel Variety Show Favorite (audience vote)
PART ONE: APPLICATION SCORE (Max. points possible per contestant: 70)
The application will be judged by five members of the Rebel Spirit Committee. Each judge is
able to award up to 14 points per contestant. Each judge will be able to award up to two points
for the “involvement” question, up to four points for the “favorite UNLV memory/event”
question, up to four points for the “why do you think you deserve to be titled the Most Spirited
Rebel” question, and up to four points for the “what would you do to help promote Rebel Pride
throughout campus” question. The criteria for awarding the points is as follows:
 Involvement: Two points for being involved and zero points for not being involved.
 Favorite UNLV memory/event: Four, two, or zero points for the way you answered this
question and the apparent time, thought, and effort that was put into your answer.
 Why do you think you deserve to be titled the Most Spirited Rebel: Four, two, or zero
points for the way you answered this question and the apparent time, thought, and effort
that was put into your answer.
 What would you do to help promote Rebel Pride throughout campus: Four, two, or zero
points for the way you answered this question and the apparent time, thought, and effort
that was put into your answer.
PART TWO: PAINTING THE REBEL (Max. points possible per contestant: 100)
This event will be judged by five judges. Each judge is able to award up to twenty points to each
contestant. Each judge will be able to award up to five points per each one of the four categories:
 Clothing: Scarlet & gray attire, spirited, creative, original shirt, pants, face paint, etc.
 Accuracy: Can the judge tell that the person in the drawing is Hey Reb?
 Creativity: How colorful, active, cheery, etc. does Hey Reb look?
 Enthusiasm: Dancing, cheering, jumping, whistling the fight song, etc. while painting
PART THREE: SINGING THE FIGHT SONG (Max. points possible per contestant: 50)
This event will be judged by the same five judges as the window-painting contest. Each judge is
able to award up to 10 points to each contestant based on enthusiasm, knowledge of the Fight
Song, spirit and entertainment value. Being dressed in your Spirit Attire for this event is not
required for but it is encouraged and can only help your score.
PART THREE: ASK THE REBEL (Max. points possible per contestant: 105)
This event will be judged by the same five judges. The contestants will be performing in front of
the judges and the audience in two groups of three contestants. Each judge is able to award up to
21 points per contestant. Each judge will be able to award up to six points for the questions
answered during the “UNLV Trivia” portion, up to five points for the “Rebel Cheer Enthusiasm”
portion, and up to ten points for the “UNLV Fight Song” portion. The criteria for awarding the
points is as follows:
 UNLV Trivia Questions: Two points for each question answered right and zero points if
answered wrong. There are three questions per contestant.
 Rebel Cheer Enthusiasm: Creative, spirited, loud, clear, etc.
 UNLV Fight Song: Knowledge, clapping, loudness, look and sound spirited, etc.
PART FOUR: REBEL VARIETY SHOW FAVORITE (Max points possible: 40)
Each member of the audience that checks in as they enter the Rebel Variety Show will receive
one ticket. This ticket is to be kept throughout the Rebel Variety Show. At the end of the show,
each member of the audience can vote for their favorite Most Spirited Rebel contestant by
depositing their ticket into their favorite contestant’s jug at the exit. Points will be awarded as
follows:
First place in votes: 40 points
Second place in votes: 30 points
Third place in votes: 20 points
Fourth place in votes: 15 points
Fifth place in votes: 10 points
Sixth place in votes: 5 points
PART FIVE: DANCE LIKE A REBEL (Max points possible per contestant: 50)
This event will be judged by the audience at the comedy night. Each contestant will receive
points based on their dance moves and how entertaining they are to the audience. At the end of
the dance-off the audience will be asked to cheer for the contestant that they think should win.
First place: 50 points
Second place: 45 points
Third place: 40 points
Fourth place: 35 points
TALLYING THE POINTS / THE WINNER (Max points possible per contestant: 415)
 Points are not transferable to another candidate
 The points from the “Paint the Rebel” contest, “Ask the Rebel” contest, “Dance Like a
Rebel” contest, and Rebel Variety Show audience vote will be tallied and the contestant
with the most points will be titled the Most Spirited Rebel. The Most Spirited Rebel will
be announced at the “Proclaim the Most Spirited Rebel” ceremony at the UNLV Men’s
Runnin’ Rebel basketball Game on Friday November 12th and awarded the Rebel Baton.
 In the event of a tie there will be a trivia question round at the Basketball Game on Friday
November 12th. The question rounds will be Sudden Death style and continue until only
one of the contestants gets a wrong answer. The contestant that gets all of the answers
correct will become the Most Spirited Rebel.
