Purpose of Event/Project: This is a new medical student led advice and strategies program for undergraduate

anxiety across college campuses. The best people to help undergraduates through this difficult time are current
medical students.
This course will consist of 4 sessions that will guide students to more effective studying prior to the MCAT. Sessions
will include: critical reading strategies and practice questions, science section strategies and practice questions,
review and practice questions pertaining to the new MCAT sections, and individualized help with practice test
questions. MCAT Advice and Strategies is primarily targeted to students who are non-traditional or a minority at
the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. This program will give undergraduate students preparing for the
MCAT a better approach to the exam utilizing a current medical student and a faculty adviser as the leaders. The
course will create bonds between the graduate and undergraduate campus that will greatly benefit both parties.
Additionally, MCAT Advice and Strategies will be completely free for the undergraduate students who attend.

Event/Project: Cowboy Up for a Cure Rodeo
Location: Alltech Arena at Kentucky Horse Park
Date: April 18th
Time:
Purpose of Event/Project: The Cowboy Up for a Cure Rodeo is presented by Alpha Gamma Delta,
Farmhouse Fraternity and the University of Kentucky’s Rodeo Team. The proceeds of the event will
benefit Cowboy up for a Cure, Inc. (CUFAC), a local non-profit organization that provides funding to
benefit children with various forms of pediatric cancer. Professional rodeo entertainment will be
provided by 3-J.
Cowboy Up for a Cure, Inc. (CUFAC/Cowboy Up) was founded by Rebecca Shryock in September 2013,
after her son, Drew, was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Rebecca founded the
organization to benefit Central Kentucky children with various forms of pediatric cancer while raising
awareness and providing a pathway to progress for families faced with similar adversities.
“While the ultimate goal of CUFAC is a cure, we realize that there is so much more to be done. We’re
hoping that by bringing Central Kentuckians together for two nights of rodeo fun, we can raise
awareness and funding for kids who are facing the fight of their lives. Let’s ‘Cowboy Up’, Kentucky.
Because kids get cancer, too!”
The funds raised during this event will directly benefit Cowboy Up For A CURE, Inc. Cowboy Up works
closely with the University of Kentucky Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic to ensure that programs
will be put in place to enrich the lives of children battling cancer from the time of diagnosis, throughout
treatment, and beyond.

Type of Grant: Senate Special Project ($2,500)—Hayes Hagan & Ben Childress
Event/Project: Military Ball at The Grand Reserve
Time: 1700-1900
Purpose of Event/Project: The prestigious annual Military Ball is the culminating event of the year which
incorporates all the training and knowledge the cadets have learned over the year. The Military Ball
brings forth all the skills that were taught over the year, such as: customs and courtesies, officership, the
Army profession , mission command, unit training management, and Army ethics. The event also honors
the graduating seniors, followed by the guest speaker emphasizing leadership.
Total Cost: 5000
Org funds used: Our funding comes from cadet participation in three different UK Athletic Events:
setting up the Wildcat Refuge during football games, ball rotation during volleyball matches, and court
clean-up duty during women's basketball games. We also receive funding from donations made by UK
ROTC Alumni.
Detailed Description of Request: Our budget is sustained through the cadets, not the Department of
Defense. While the cadets work hard to maintain a positive budget, there are several ROTC events which
require utilizing the programs funds. For the Military Ball, the event will roughly cost $10,000, to include
renting the venue, providing tables/chairs, decorations, catering accommodations, media outlets, and
guest speaker expenses. The current cost can be supported by our budget, but will create a strain on
future training events and opportunities for the cadets.
