0062 I believe that it is important for my generation to conserve natural recourses so that future generations can enjoy what I have experienced. I have had the opportunity to duck hunt, deer hunt and Sandhill Crane hunt and without conservation efforts future generations will not be able to experience the same opportunities as I have today. The American Bald Eagle is an excellent example of wildlife conservation efforts bringing back an endangered species. On June 28, 2007 the American Bald Eagle was removed from the endangered species list by the US Department of Interior. Through public awareness and educational programs the indiscriminant killing of eagles as well as the banning of DDT, helped to accomplish this goal. The key to land stewardship and conservation in Texas today relies on cooperative efforts from many different sources. Land owner participation is essential because Texas is a private property state. Organizations such as the Texas Wildlife Association and wildlife management associations are key to educating private land owners about wildlife conservation. Scientific research by entities such as Ducks Unlimited, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Center and the Kerr Wildlife Management Area contribute greatly to sound wildlife management practices. Cooperation from governmental agencies such as Texas Parks and Wildlife and the US Fish and Wildlife Service is vital for success. Government buy-in is essential to implement policies that address real world situations. In conclusion, a quote from the book Ecology and Management of the Wood Duck by Frank Bellrose and Daniel Holm, "The science of wildlife ecology is more than research. It also is more than on the ground management and field work. And it is more than politics and administration. At its best, wildlife ecology is a carefully orchestrated blend of all three."
