should be written from Jem’s point of view. For each version, be sure to

EXAMPLE OBITUARY 1: PHILIP JENKINSON, 89
Phillip Frank Jenkinson, 89, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on March 10, 2012 peacefully in his sleep.
The funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on March 12, 2012 at Sanderson and Sons Funeral Home. Reverend
Mike Jones of St. Anthony Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 3:00 PM on March 11, 2012 at St.
Anthony Church. Burial will follow the funeral at City View Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Funeral arrangements are being
handled by Sanderson and Sons Funeral Home.
Phillip was born in Nashville, Tennessee on February 19, 1923. He graduated from Nashville Hills High School and
continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Education Degree from the University of Tennessee.
Phillip was married to June A. Jenkinson (Williams) on July 20, 1945; they were married 67 years.
Phillip worked as a teacher at a local high school for more than 30 years. He enjoyed reading, going to the movies,
playing and watching sports. He was also actively involved in teaching basketball for many years and was a
dedicated member of the Memphis Variety Club.
Phillip is survived by his two children, Bill W. Jenkinson and his wife Amy, Jim Jenkinson; his 2 grandchildren
Adam and Bettina; his 2 brothers, Martin L. Jenkinson and Ken B. Jenkinson; his nieces and nephews; and the rest
of his family and friends.
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Jenkinson and June J. Jenkinson; as well as his sister, Jennifer
G. Sanderson.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Society, 2234 East 21st Street,
Washington, DC 00000. The family of Phillip Jenkinson wishes to thank the Memphis City Hospice and Palliative
Care Center as well as St. Anthony Church.
EXAMPLE OBITUARY 2: SIMON LEWIS, 72
Simon Eric Lewis passed away at his home in San Francisco on Friday, March 6, 2012 at the age of 72.
Simon is predeceased by his parents, Jake and Mary Beth Lewis, and his brother, Lawrence Lewis.
Simon is survived by his loving wife Jane of 37 years. They were married in Hawaii on June 25, 1975.
Simon is lovingly remembered by his wife Jane of San Francisco; brother Matt (Chelsea) Lewis of San
Francisco; sister Mandy (Jon) Harris; sons Will and Jack Lewis; and loving nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Simon was born in San Jose, California in 1940. He graduated from San Jose District 15 High School in
1958 and went on to earn a Degree in Commerce from California University in 1964. He worked as a VP
of Operations at the San Francisco Times Newspaper.
Simon enjoyed sports, especially baseball, as well as movies, reading and spending time with his family.
The visitation will be held at Moore and Sons Funeral Home, 5523 North 15th Street, San Francisco,
California on March 8, 2012 at 11:00 am. Prayers will be offered from St. Anthony’s United Church, 345
East 15th Street, San Francisco, California on March 8 at 3:30 pm.
The funeral service will be held at Moore and Sons Funeral Home on March 9, 2012 at 10:30 am with
Rev. Jake Walker officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 4332 Mountain View
Lane, San Francisco, WA at 3:30 pm. A wake will take place at Jane Smith’s House on March 9, 2012 at
7:00 pm.
