FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE 5TH ASIAN-PACIFIC HEPATO-PANCREATO-BILIARY ASSOCIATION CONGRESS EXPECTED TO DRAW 1,000 TO SUNTEC SINGAPORE Singapore, 13 March 2015 – The Singapore Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association is pleased to host the 5th Asian-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association Congress (A-PHPBA 2015) in Singapore this year. APHPBA 2015 is an important regional scientific meeting that offers participants an invaluable opportunity to stay current on the latest scientific developments and emerging challenges of hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) disorders. About 1,000 surgeons, coming in from 38 countries including outside of the Asia-Pacific, are expected. They will be exchanging clinical and scientific knowledge through intensive post-graduate courses, plenary sessions, oral presentations and scientific sessions on the current management of hepatobiliary malignancies, pancreatic diseases, cirrhosis and liver transplantation. Congress Chairman Prof Krishnakumar Madhavan says “It is a great honour and privilege for Singapore to host this meeting and we warmly welcome our colleagues from all over the world. This year, we are extending our meeting to include doctors from the other specialties – including hepatology, medical oncology, interventional radiology and nuclear medicine – who work closely with us every day to deliver excellent care to our patients”, Scientific Chairman Prof Pierce Chow explains, “This is why our theme this year is ‘The Multidisciplinary Treatment of HPB Disorders’. The programme will comprise three multi-disciplinary tracks – malignant diseases, benign diseases and liver transplantation. We are fortunate to be able have a large number of expert speakers from all over the world to share their expertise with us at this year’s congress, so participants can be thoroughly updated on all the latest scientific advancements in the field”. The Congress, organised by Kenes MP Asia, will be held at Suntec Singapore from 18 to 21 March 2015. Registration can be made online at http://aphpba2015.com/ as well as onsite. About A-PHPBA The vision of forming a society in Asia for Asians started all the way back in the early 1991 when there was a disparity that existed in the level of medical care in some countries. The Asian Society of Hepato-BiliaryPancreatic Surgery (ASHBPS) was formally inaugurated in Bangkok with Professor Tadahiro Takada as the first President. After its eighth Congress in Manila, the ASHBPS was shifted to a new Organisation A-PHPBA in 2005. The inaugural meeting of the A-PHPBA in Fukuoka, Japan closed at the end of March 2007, and HPB surgeons in Asia-Pacific had found a new home! The Association was founded with the view to let HPB specialists in this region gather together to share their experiences and ideas, and fostering mutual understanding. A-PHPBA meets with the American AHPBA and the European EHPBA under the umbrella of the IHPBA. Media contact: Pattama Thuanchaisri: (+66 2) 748 7881 ext. 107 or pthuanchaisri@kenes.com
