2012
SUBJECT: Science


(Engage) Morning Work- Students will copy the new vocabulary
words and use “Passing the EOG Science” booklet and textbook to
define the vocabulary words. Students will review the vocabulary words
and definition.
(Explain) Teacher and students will review vocabulary. Teacher will
then break students into groups.
(Exploration) Students will create a play (small skit 3-4 mins per
group). Students will use the vocabulary words erosion, weathering and
deposition to explain the definitions. Students will use the illustration
and story created by teacher as an example.
(Evaluation) Students will “act-out” their play. Teacher is assessing
the information presented to check for understanding.
(Extension) Teacher and students will review vocabulary.
Homework- Homework Packet and Social Studies pages.
Engage) Morning Work- Students will complete a “Y-Chart” using the
information from page 33 in the “Landforms” book.
(Explain) Teacher and students will reread the pages, and share
responses. Teacher will introduce a picture of a Topographic Map and
will introduce key terms of the map such as Contour Lines and map
colors. Teacher will model elevation by using a foam mountain.
(Exploration) Teacher and students will build a foam-mountain
model and compare it to a real mountain. Students will draw a
topographic map and a profile of the model mountain.
(Evaluation) Students will relate the elevation of their drawing to the
foam mountain and answer discussion questions.
(Engage) Morning Work- Students will create word charts (Frayer
Models) for any two of their vocabulary words.
(Explain) Teacher and students will complete part 2 of the
Topographic Maps Lab. Students will observe and describe the types of
information on a topographic map. Teacher and students will review

(Evaluation) In groups of 3, students will use the Response Sheet to
answer questions about the map.
(Extension) Students will share responses.
(Extension) Review answers and vocabulary if time permits.
Engage) Morning Work-Students will create their Erosion and
Weathering book. Students will create one questions using the created
book and exchange it with a neighbor. (Books are foldable books that
are already pre-made.) Students will turn these questions in at the end
of class.
(Explain) In groups of 3 students will read their assigned pages.
Students will use chart paper, markers and rulers to create a poster to
teach the class their section from pages C10-C13 and C20-C25.
(Exploration) Students will teach the class their assigned section.
Teacher and students will participate in a question and answer session
and discuss each question.
(Evaluation) Students will answer the red section topics to check for
understanding.
(Extension) Review vocabulary if time permits. Students will finish.
(Engage) Morning Work- Morning Work-Students will complete
worksheet to review Goal 3.
(Explain) With a partner, students will read story out of “Landforms”
book called “The Story of Mount Shasta.”
