BHS Lothian
‘Test and Teach evenings’
Scottish National Equestrian Centre
BHS Lothian are pleased to announce that we will be hosting several test and teach
evenings.
These evenings will be run over a period of four months allowing riders of any age and
ability to have the chance to brush up on old skills and gain new ones, either in the
dressage arena or the show jumping arena.
This a great chance for the junior or senior rider to tackle any issues in either of the
disciplines whether these issues are related to horse, rider performance or both. Riders
will be put into a competition setting where they will have the chance to ride a dressage
test or jump a course of showjumps. A coach will be on the ground advising and assisting
with any issues which may occur.
The aim of these evenings is for riders to come away feeling more confident and satisfied
with his or her performance and of course their horse’s. This could also be a great chance
for any of you competition riders out there who may suffer from low levels of confidence in
a competition enviroment or if you have a young horse with the same issue.
Each group will last 1 hour. We intend to have a maximum of 4 riders per group. Groups
will be formed depending on riders’ ability and maximum height they wish to jump. We will
advise you of your time slot when confirming your booking. Our first group will start at 6pm.
Earlier and later times may be added if needed.
Priority will be given to BHS members, with non-members being put on to a waiting list,
and will cost £25 per rider. To book your place, please complete the attached form and
return it with your fee no later than two weeks prior to each event.

Overview of Training
Jump Training
All riders will get the chance to ride the course and on completion will be able to discuss
their performance with our coach. Riders will then have the chance to return to the jumping
arena with our coach’s guidance, to have a second attempt at the course to make
adjustments.
Dressage Training
This evening will run on a similar timetable; each rider will get the chance to ride a
dressage test and on completion will get their score from the dressage judge. The judge
and coach will discuss both horse and rider performance. The rider will then have the
opportunity to ride the same test again with the coach’s guidance.
The aim is that you leave the arena having felt improvement and also that this shows in
your second score sheet
(Booking Form Below)
***Please note that horse and rider may only enter one class per evening. Please
take into consideration when booking your chosen group that you have jumped up
to the height in your chosen class and that you are familiar with your level of
dressage test. This will ensure that you gain maximum benefit of your session on
the evening and that our coach can help you as best they can. Details of chosen
dressage tests will be emailed to you when your application has been successful.
