Eastern Woodlands Chant
Tune of “The Ants Go Marching”
By Ann Hastings
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
From the trees they made canoes, and tools,
shelters, weapons, and food like fruits
The two main groups there were Iroquois, Algonquians
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Their government, the homes they built,
Were the differences between the groups,
Iroquois in longhouses, Algonquians in wigwams
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
The Iroquois and Algonquians,
Were grouped together by the languages they spoke,
Since they all spoke similar languages
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Life in Eastern Woodlands was all, about trees,
Iroquois League resolved problems for people,
Iroquois built palisades ‘round their homes,
To protect themselves from their enemies
