Aims of the Course
The Business Foundation Year FHEQ Level 3 aims to:

provide knowledge and understanding of key business subjects;

help students understand and apply business concepts to real life organisations;

embed academic and employability skills, providing students with the confidence
they need to progress on their chosen course and begin considering their entry into
the labour market;

provide the underpinning knowledge for the range of business degrees/subjects
that students progress onto at Solent.
Intended Course Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Explain the main concepts, theories and or practice relating to their subject area;

Locate and organise a range of information or evidence from given or familiar

Non Standard Entry
Students without one of the qualifications indicated on the entry profile may be considered
on the basis of previously achieved certificated learning, experiential learning and/or workrelated experience.
22.
Regulation of Assessment
Assessment is carried out in accordance with Southampton Solent University’s Assessment
Regulations and Assessment Policy, as set out in the current edition of the Academic
Handbook (Section 2O).
Recognition of Prior Learning
Where a student wishes to apply for the recognition of prior learning on the basis of
certificated or experiential learning, they should follow the normal University RPL
procedure.
Progression
A student may progress from FHEQ level 3 to FHEQ level 4 with 100 credits. Credits gained
at FHEQ level 3 do not count towards the credit requirements for the final degree.
See attached list of courses students on the Business Foundation Year (BFY) can progress to
(Annex 1).

Successful completion of FHEQ Level 3 carries no specific award other than FHEQ Level 3
credits, the students simply progress to FHEQ Level 4 of their designated course as stated
under ‘Progression’ above.
However, students exiting after successful completion of the BFY will be awarded:
