National Philanthropy Day Summit
BURSARY GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION
The City of Vancouver Cultural Services Division and Social Policy & Projects
Division are pleased to offer Bursaries to support up to 12 small to medium size
Vancouver based non-profit organizations to attend the National Philanthropy Day
Summit in Vancouver, BC, November 17, 2015.

AFP Vancouver is proud to announce that its 2015 National Philanthropy Day event is now
bigger and better than ever! For the very first time, we are hosting a full day professional
development component that will deliver fantastic opportunities for local fundraisers to hone
skills, foster creativity, and gain knowledge. A range of sessions will deliver practical
workshops on all facets of fundraising tailored to the different abilities, experiences, and
needs of you and your fellow fundraisers.
The centerpiece of the day will remain the Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon &
Keynote where we will recognize seven amazing individuals and businesses whose
significant contributions to the community through philanthropy have earned them the
prestigious Giving Hearts Award. Read more about National Philanthropy Day here.
Bursary Eligibility and Selection Criteria
National Philanthropy Summit bursaries are provided with funding from the City of
Vancouver Cultural Services Division and the City of Vancouver Social Policy & Projects
Division. The following bursaries are available:
 Up to 6 bursaries of $250 each from the Cultural Services Division for small to medium
size Vancouver based non-profit organizations that:
o Are a City of Vancouver Cultural Services grant recipient or tenant in one of the
City’s cultural spaces
o Can designate a staff person or board member to attend who has fundraising
responsibilities as a direct part of their position portfolio

o

Has specific organizational strategic directions or a strategic plan which include
fundraising goals and/or development of a fundraising plan/program.
Up to 6 bursaries of $250 each from the Social Policy & Projects Division for small to
medium size Vancouver based non-profit organizations that:
o Are currently in receipt of a 2015 Social Policy Grant
o Can designate a staff person or board member to attend who has fundraising
responsibilities as a direct part of their portfolio
o Has specific organizational strategic directions or a strategic plan which include
fundraising goals and/or development of a fundraising plan/program.
Bursary recipients will be selected by a committee of representatives from the City of
Vancouver, based on the above eligibility guidelines and the following assessment criteria:
 Does the applicant have a specific fundraising or development challenge,
opportunity or initiative?
 The relevance and potential benefit of the conference topics and learnings for the
fundraising needs of the organization.
 Does the attendee hold a position that is likely to have significant role in the
organization’s fundraising or development initiatives
 The ability of the attendee to share learnings within their organization or with their
networks and the community

All applicants will be notified via email whether or not they have been selected for a bursary
by Monday, November 9th, 2015
