Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire Position Title: Part Time Crew Supervisor (Monday through Wednesday) Reports to: Program Manager/ Head Supervisor The Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire is a program of the Southern California Mountains Foundation that helps at risk young adults (18-24) to learn conservation related job skills and life skills education. The type of job skills that are taught include but not limited to public land management, park maintenance, fuels reduction, property maintenance, etc. The Crew Supervisor implements the mission of the Urban Conservation Corps by using their leadership, compassion, supervisory, inspirational and technical skills to develop work skills in young adults at risk. The Crew Supervisor provides the closet personal contact with the young adult (18-24) (corpsmember) in the work environment. The Crew Supervisor must be mature, loves working with youth and people, must be able to motivate and must be able to enforce rules and regulations through respectful and professional manners. The Crew Supervisor also drives the 15 passenger van and must have a Class B Drivers License or must obtained one within 2 month upon being hired for the position. Major Duties Drive a 15 passenger van and have a Class B Driver’s License (or must obtain one within 2 months of being hired) – This is a requirement of the job. Motivate young adults to fulfill their education, work projects and life goals Must be a good Role Model and Mentor to young adults ages 18-24 Provide young adults with skills necessary to improve their employability Supervise the Crew in the completion of a service project including trail construction and maintenance, landscaping, park maintenance, litter abatement, recycling, etc. Ensure safe work practices, a safe work environment Ensure that a consistent high quality of work is being performed on the various projects Train and guide the Crew to complete a project on task and on time Ensure appropriate equipment availability for the Crew to perform the work projects Counsel, motivate, provide constructive discipline and positive reinforcement for Corpsmembers Attend Staff Training (i.e. effective supervision, basic computer skills, sexual harassment, proper chainsaw operations, defensive driving, conflict resolution and writing /grammar) Other duties assigned by the Program Manager/ Head Supervisor Qualifications Capable of driving a 15 passenger van – Hold a Class B Driver’s License (or can obtain one within 2 months) (THIS IS A REQUIREMENT OF THE JOB) Must have a minimum of 2 years working with at risk young adults or youth Must have experience with outdoor type of work such as landscaping, chainsaw work, or demonstrate proficiency in the ability to perform physical requirements of the job in the field Must have competency to use a computer to fill out necessary progress report forms Must have a high school diploma or equivalency form an accredited institution AA or BA (preferred) Must be able to follow directions, learn quickly and be able to work independently Must be flexible and willing to make changes as needed Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and work ethics Must be reliable, responsible and accountable Must have excellent analytical skills ( which means identifying and understanding critical situations that may impact work projects or working relationships among young people) Must be a team player and have a good attitude – (people with bad attitudes need not apply) Must have good communication skills and active listening skills to ensure respectful communication among Corpsmembers, other UCC Staff and the Supervisor Work Schedule Monday through Wednesday 7am to 4:30pm This may lead to a full time position.
