UNIVERSITY OF WEST LONDON JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Photographic Technician/Demonstrator Post No: School/Department: Ealing School of Art Design and Media Grade: 5 Responsible to: Specialist Subject Resource and Technical Manager Location: Based at Ealing, but you will be required to undertake your duties at any site of the university as required. SUMMARY OF MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide technical support to darkroom, photographic studios, computer labs, to maintain and demonstrate specialist photographic equipment, to support staff and students in the operation of photography resources. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide technical support for students and staff in photography and digital production facilities. 2. Demonstrate specialist photography equipment, from analogue 35mm to large format, high-end digital capture, studio lighting and imaging software within formal group sessions and to individuals. 3. Demonstrate and maintain in-house colour management workflow, including calibration, profiling and professional colour printing. 4. Assist in production of teaching materials, including writing workshops, hand-outs and class notes. 5. Record and archive photography for department and school. 6. Issue and receive equipment to and from students and staff using computer aided booking systems 7. Undertake front line maintenance, repairs and fault finding on all photographic equipment and liaise efficiently with equipment and service suppliers 8. Work in liaison with Facilities Manager and academic members of staff to audit and plan the continuing development of the technical resources and department facilities and assist in the purchasing and budgeting of new resources, ensuring compatibility of technical resource. 9. Keep up to date with technological developments in the subject area 10. Involvement in the installation of student photography exhibitions 11. To undertake any other duties required by the post as determined by the department head or line manager PERSON SPECIFICATION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Qualifications: First degree or equivalent in photography or a closely related area. Post graduate degree in photography or related area. Knowledge and Experience: Experience in a photographic studio environment Photographic industry experience Specialist knowledge of the Abobe Photoshop software. Full working knowledge of Adobe Lightroom, Microsoft Office, specialist scanning and capture software using the Apple Mac operating system. Affiliation to industry bodies such as the Association of Photographers or British Institute of Professional photographers. Experience of moving image capture and post production using convergence DSLRs Working knowledge of Apple OSX Working knowledge of traditional wet processes.
