Policy on the Care of Non-Teaching by fellows of the Hematology/Oncology
Fellowship Training Program
The Department of Internal Medicine and the Division of Hematology/Oncology and
Palliative Care are committed to providing fellows with the highest quality educational experience. While the hematology/oncology fellowship-training program recognizes that clinical education occurs in a variety of settings and in a variety of formats including experiences afforded by direct, hands-on patient management, the program is committed to preserving the integrity of the educational experience though an appropriate balance between education and service. To maintain this balance, the program has established the following guidelines.
1.
Except in emergency circumstances, the hematology/oncology fellows will neither admit nor provide the primary medical management for patients on non-teaching services in their capacity as fellows. Fellows may provide appropriate hematology/oncology consultative services on such patients while assigned to the inpatient consultative services or while providing athome call covering these consultative services.
2.
Fellows may admit and/or provide the primary medical management for patients on non-teaching services should they choose to moonlight. All such moonlighting activity must be in accordance with the moonlighting policy of the training program.
3.
This policy applies to all sites of training for the program.
4.
Violations of this policy are to be reported immediately to the program director.
