Mortar Board, a national senior honor society, is an association of collegians selected for f
distinguished ability in scholarship, leadership, and service. Mortar Board was founded on r

February 15, 1918 at Syracuse University and has grown to include over 200 chartered chapters
and 200,000 alumni. While it is an honor to be selected for membership in Mortar Board, it m
is
the continued commitment to serve that differentiates Mortar Board from other honorary

societies. During the past year, Mortar Board has accomplished numerous activities including
honoring individuals who have made a difference in students’ lives through the “People Whoh
Inspire” banquet, recognizing outstanding educators in the “Professor of the Month” award e
program, hosting exemplary University of Nebraska alumni during Master’s Week, participating
d
in our national project, “Reading is Leading,” and attending the traditional gavel exchange with

the University of Iowa Mortar Board chapter during the NU/Iowa football game.

We are now in the process of selecting Notables for next year. In order to have a complete record
to assist us in selections, interested students should complete this information sheet. Requiredm

GPA to apply is a 3.3. Please return your completed application in a sealed 9 x 12 inch manila
envelope to the Mortar Board booth that will be set up behind the main staircase in the City n

Our constitution states, “Mortar Board, Inc., as an honor society, shall be an association of collegians
selected for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.”
In order for us to select on this merit, please include the following with your application.
I.
A current résumé of college involvement. Make sure to include any honors, awards,
scholarship, leadership experience, and campus and community activities. (Freshmen
applying may include activities from high school.)
II.
Include one letter of recommendation in a signed, sealed envelope.
III.
The answer to the following question on a separate sheet of paper in 375 words or less
double-spaced:
a. Mortar Board emphasizes scholarship, leadership, and service. How have you
