Insert the description of the program as it will appear in the catalog. The Certificate of Achievement in Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide prepares students for a career in an area with a high demand for employment. Students will learn to become nursing assistants in long-term care facilities, acute-care settings, and home-care settings. Emphasis is given to safety principles, infection control, methods for providing physical care and emotional and social support. Also included are: medical legal issues, patient cultural differences, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, resume and interview preparation, including practice interviews through LA Chamber of Commerce, and digital literacy. The California Department of Health Services and the Red Cross certify the Certified Nursing and Home Health Aide program. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the State of California Certification Examination. 2. Provide a brief rationale for the program. By combining the CNA and HHA courses plus an exam prep class with four Health Occupation courses that are being launched at the Los Angeles Community College District for healthcare students, a certificate will be created that improves the student’s chance for employment. The four Health Occupations courses create a Healthcare Foundation Credential developed through a Department of Labor grant. Upon completion of the Health Occupation classes, if the student can demonstrate the competencies for the course, the student will receive a digital badge that is recognized by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and is supported by over 100 healthcare employers. When the four Health Occupation courses are combined with the CNA, HHA and Essential Practical Skills for Nurse Assistants classes, the student’s chance of employed is magnified by the recognition of the foundation courses’ demonstrated competencies and the chance for employment is significantly elevated. This certificate will distinguish these students from the masses when seeking employment. Click here to enter text. 3. This is Los Angeles Mission College’s first launch of healthcare classes, which will bring the opportunity of these classes to a community college in the northeastern San Fernando Valley for the first time. Further, the CNA/HHA Certificate of Completion will provide a means for students to be recognized by industry. This is the result of the digital badges that demonstrate competencies in the various components of the healthcare foundation courses that goes beyond the standard CNA/HHA classes. This is due to the fact that the digital badges were developed under the guidance of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, who represents over 100 healthcare employers. These employers have expressed a desire to hire students who complete the courses and demonstrate the competencies. As a result, students who can present evidence of completion of this certificate are in a more desirable position for employment. Revised Sunday, February 07, 2016
