Sister Mercy introduces April Brown and her sister Kelsey Brown to
the Portland Rhythm and Blues scene. April and Kelsey grew up in a
singing family and provides amazing chemistry on and off stage.
Originally from Los Angeles, April desired to take her talent to the
stages of the Rose City. Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Etta James as
well as current artists such as Adele influence April. She was deeply
involved with the music world in Los Angeles, recording and singing
with top names at The Whiskey and The Roxie. Now get ready for her
vocal power in PDX.
Sister Mercy band members have deep roots in the Oregon regional
music area. Roger Espinor and Ron Camacho played for five years
with the original award-winning Rose City Kings. He produced three
CD’s with this high-energy blues band and brings that creative,
driving rhythms to Sister Mercy’s first album HEAD OVER HEELS.
Ron joins Sister Mercy as one of the top bass players in the region
with his strongest influence of Jaco Pastorius and Eric Clapton. Steve
Savoie brings strong R & B experience on his slide guitar and licks like
Muddy Waters to the stage. Keyboardist Debby Espinor rounds out
the band. Ray Charles, Dr. John and Nina Simone as well as Portland
local David Vest have influenced her personal style.
If you want a show worthy of a large stage, consider SISTER MERCY.
People dance from the first beat to the last strum.

From their opening song, Brown’s
powerful vocal delivery and range were
quite impressive live, and watching her
and her sister harmonize was
mesmerizing at times. Songs like “The
Way,” “Holding On To Love” and “Heavy
Load” were nothing short of amazing,
the latter of which highlighted Savoie’s
outstanding slide work. A strong
performance by a great band with deep
roots in the Oregon music scene, when
you need your fix of some great gospeltinged, smoky R&B, go see this band!
