Jackson Scholar Program Application Before you begin the application process, please read the Jackson Scholar Handbook available on the Jackson Center webpage (www.coastal.edu/jacksoncenter) or in the Assistant Director’s office in EHFA 232. There are four parts required to apply for the Jackson Scholar program: 1. The completed application form 2. A written statement from the applicant 3. An unofficial copy of the applicant’s transcript 4. A letter of recommendation from a current Coastal Carolina University faculty or staff member. Applications may be acquired from and returned to the Assistant Director, Brian Edgerton, in EHFA 232. You may also download your application from the Jackson Center webpage (www.coastal.edu/jacksoncenter) and email it to him at bjedgert@coastal.edu. Instructions on filling out, saving, and emailing the application are included below. The Application: Fill out the application completely. When finished, save the file with your name (LastFirst) and Application (ex: SmithJohn_Application.pdf). Please make certain to save your application as a .pdf file. If you encounter any issues, please contact the Assistant Director, Brian Edgerton, at bjedgert@coastal.edu or (843) 349-4149. The Written Statement In a statement of not more than 750 words, please address the following: 1. What does it take to be a good person? 2. Give personal examples of both a success and a failure in upholding one of your values. 3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? What is an obstacle that you need to clear to get there, and how will you do so? Double space your written statement and use Times New Roman 12 point font. Save the file as your name (LastFirst) and Statement. The file should be in .pdf format (ex: SmithJohn_Statement.pdf). The Transcript Go to WebAdvisor and log into your student account. Under ‘Academic Profile’ click on the link ‘View Your Unofficial Transcript.’ If you are turning in a hard copy of your application, print your unofficial transcript and attach it to your application. If you are emailing your application, save it as a .pdf file and include it with your application email. Your unofficial transcript file should follow the same naming structure as the other parts of the application format (ex: SmithJohn_Transcript.pdf). The Letter of Recommendation The letter of recommendation must come from a current faculty or staff member at Coastal Carolina University.
