Supporting Information for: Blue-Shift of Photoluminescence Induced by Coupling Effect of a Nanohybrid Composed of Fluorophore-Phenothiazine Derivative and Gold Nanoparticles Lin Kong, Jia-xiang Yang, Qi-yu Chen, Qiong Zhang, Wen-dong Ke, Zhao-ming Xue, Hong-ping Zhou, Jie-ying Wu, Bao-kang Jin, Yu-peng Tian Contents 1. Preparation of Intermediate a~b 2. SEM images of L nanocrystals obtained from the other two solutions 3. SEM micrograph of the mixture physically mixed L belts and Au NPs 4. Calculated excitation energies (E), oscillator strengths (f), corresponding wavelengths (λabs) and major contributors for L To synthesize intermediate a, phenothiazine (0.4 g, 2 mmol), ethyl bromide (0.33 g, 3 mmoL) 1 and NaH (0.07 g, 3 mmoL) were mixed in round-bottom flask. The mixture was stirred at 140 °C for about 24 h. The solvent was evaporated to get intermediate a. Then, intermediate a (0.12 g, 5 mmol), triphenylphosphine (10 mL) were dissolved in DMF (15 mL) in ice-water bath. Then, the mixture was stirred at 80 ºC for 1 h, cooled to room temperature, poured into ice water (50 mL) and light-yellow solid was deposited. The soilid was extract with ethyl acetate (150 mL 4). The organic layer was combined, washed with water and dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatograph of silica gel with petroleum ether/ethyl acetate (3:1) as the eluent to obtain intermediate b as a yellow solid in yield 64%. L molecules coupled with Au NPs through S atoms, which brought about significant blue-shift of the fluorescence and an obvious increase of FL lifetime. 5
