Clinical Experiences Required By Program Description and Purpose of Specific Field Experience Sequence in Program EDS 505: Supervised practicum – Elementary/middle level. Purposes: to enable candidates to observe and participate in the various roles/responsibilities of special educators; to provide a classroom context for candidates to complete assignments from four classes taken concurrently EDS 507 Supervised PracticumSecondary Middle Level 1st Semester (Fall) EDS 506: Supervised practicum – Elementary/middle (continued placement from previous semester for most students) Purpose: Same as for EDS 505 EDS 508: Supervised PracticumSecondary/Middle Level 2nd Semester (Spring) Description of Field Experience Setting **Co-taught or collaborative consultation model (Grades 1-8) Length of Field Experience 40 Hours (3 hours a week) Resulting Product(s) Diversity Category Midterm and final evaluation from cooperating teacher Students are placed in an urban setting in either EDS 505 and 506 or in EDS 518 for ele/middle. Students one in urban setting either EDS 507/508 or n EDS 518. Thus, all students have experience in all diversity categories. Assignments from courses: -Functional behavioral analysis and positive behavior support plan (503); -Curriculum-based measures (EDS 502), -Co-taught lesson (500) and Strategy Lesson (510), -Classroom observation (500) **Co-taught or collaborative consultation model (Grades 1-8) 40 Hours (3 hours a week) Midterm and final evaluation from cooperating teacher Assignments from courses: -Literacy lesson plans for one student with a moderate or severe disability (EDS 509); -Instructional materials using Boardmaker software (EDS 509); -Co-taught lesson plan with reflection (EDS 501) EDS 511: Educational planning for Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities: Literacy and Language Instruction 2nd semester (Spring) Individual after school tutorial (Grades 7-8) 15-20 hours of individual tutoring Diagnostic reports, weekly lesson plans, weekly reflections and progress monitoring, class presentations EDS 518: Supervised internship Purpose: to provide candidates with opportunities to acquire the range of skills needed by a special education teacher 3rd semester (Fall) **Co-taught or collaborative consultation model (Grades 1-8) The candidate is placed in the setting she did not experience during the first year 14-15 weeks full time -Midterm and final evaluation from both the cooperating teacher and the University supervisor; -Student profiles of present level of performance and IEP matrices; -Unit plan using backwards design; -Assessment data for instructional purposes; -Case study that involves assessment and instruction using CBMs, Development of an IEP, Observation of a standardized assessment and a paper describing that experience Fall 2011-
