Hermantown Elementary News Report Cards Friday, November 6th is the end of the grading period at the elementary school. Teachers are preparing grades for report cards. Report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, November 13th. We encourage you to review the report card with your child and discuss strengths and areas for improvement. Bully Prevention: October was Bully Prevention Month. Mrs. Larson is our school counselor and she has been meeting with classrooms to discuss bully prevention. All of our teachers use the Second Step Curriculum for their students. This curriculum focuses on empathy and treating one another with respect. We have an effective process for dealing with bullying to offer support for all students involved. CLIMB Theatre will be presenting plays to our students on November 18th related to bully prevention. Our PTO graciously provides funds for the presentations. This year the focus is: 1. To help students understand how their actions impact themselves, each other, and the environment. 2. To show the difference between instant and delayed gratification. 3. To provide strategies students can use when self-control is needed. 4. To model what self-control looks like. 5. To show positive consequences of practicing self-control and negative consequences of not using self-control. 6. To provide strategies students can use to recognize and learn from their mistakes after a lapse in self-control Information for family discussion will be sent via Messenger following the CLIMB Theatre presentations. After School Activities: The entrance by the new gym will be the only accessible doors for after school activities. We have so much to be grateful for at Hermantown Elementary. The buzz in system at the main entrance is working well and we have heard many positive comments from parents regarding how they appreciate this added feature to help ensure their children’s safety and security. Exterior doors lock for the day at 9:00 when school starts. If you bring your child later than 9:00, they will need enter the front doors and go through the secure entrance. Morning Student Drop-Off When dropping students off at school in the morning, please pull up as far south as possible in the line to avoid backing up the traffic. It makes a tremendous difference. After School Plans: The end of the day plans for students can be very stressful. Please attempt to have these plans as simplified as possible and communicated clearly with the classroom teacher and office. If there needs to be a change regarding parent-pick up or Kid Care plans at the end of the day, call the office no later than 2:00. We appreciate your support in helping our students end their days positively and safely. Early Release: Friday, November 6th is a 2 hour early release for students. Student pick-up will be at 1:30 and bus dismissal at 1:35. This is a time for staff to receive professional development opportunities which includes things such as mandatory special education training and technology updates. 3
