UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM RECRUITMENT ROLE PROFILE FORM Job Title: Assistant Professor in Modern Languages Education School: School of Education Salary: £34,233 – £45,954 per annum, depending on skills and experience, salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance Job family & level: Research & Teaching Extended Level 5 Contract Status: Permanent post Hours of Work: Full-time Location: The School of Education, Jubilee Campus Reporting to: Director of Initial Teacher Education The Purpose of the Role: The School of Education has a large, well established and highly respected tradition of initial teacher education (ITE) with a strong Modern Languages (ML) team. As routes into teaching have diversified in recent years the School has been outstandingly successful in retaining high numbers of modern linguists across a range of routes. The role holder will contribute to the development of existing and new ITE programmes as well as to other PG programmes offered by the School (e.g. the MA Education and PGCE International). They will make a significant contribution to the School’s research activity by writing and publishing in an area relevant to one of the School’s research centres. Main Responsibilities: Main Responsibilities 1. To 1 teach across a range of ITE and PG programmes providing curriculum leadership within . own area of expertise. 2. Provide 2 oversight, leadership and academic administration for ITE courses (e.g. in relation . to curriculum development; assessment; quality assurance and enhancement; tutorial and pastoral support for students; management of casual staff). 3. Carry 3 out school visits with regard to student support, assessment against QTS standards, . school partnership support and development and to assure quality in schoolbased mentoring. 4. To supervise and examine Postgraduate, Masters and PhD students. 5. To take the lead on, plan, develop and conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects and proposals either as an individual or as part of a broader programme. 6. To establish a national reputation and regularly disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed national publications (on a sustained basis), conferences and other appropriate media. 7. Work 6 cooperatively as a member of the School’s Initial Teacher Education Directorate, and . in the wider School and University community where appropriate. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualifications/ Education PhD (completed or near to completion) Desirable Membership of professional association Good honours degree in either French or Spanish language Postgraduate Certificate in Education (secondary) or equivalent Skills/Training Proven competence in teaching of ML in an 11-18 comprehensive school Experience of leading curriculum development in schools Evidence of professional development and high level of ICT literacy Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of media Ability to devise, advise on and manage learning and research programmes Skills in counselling, pastoral care and motivating students. Experience Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, internally and externally. Substantive teaching experience in secondary education Participation in funded research Involvement in funding bids Experience and demonstrated success in delivering teaching within an agreed quality framework. Experience of working with or Experience of supervising at Masters or Doctoral level belonging to professional organisations in the sector Experience and achievement in chosen field, reflected in growing and consistent national reputation Experience of supporting student teachers or NQTs Research experience within subject specialism Evidence of publication record.
