Security Questions and Answers
How secure is the school's data in the cloud hosted system?
Very secure, we use a leading UK based cloud hosting company and use there managed service to ensure all our servers are maintained to the highest of standards. These servers are all based in the UK. The physical security of the data centre is very high with:
CCTV system covering all entrances/exits and main areas to ensure that the Data
Centre facility is secure at all times
24-hour video recording which is then held on site for review should the need arise
Fully alarmed floor covering entrances and emergency exits meaning that we will always know if the Data Centre is occupied
Biometric security access system for additional security
Visual verification of all persons entering the data floor
What encryption is implemented on the connection?
We use SSL encryption on all connections to our servers
Intrusion prevention service (IPS)
Hardware firewalls in place
How is the data on your servers encrypted?
Data on the servers is not encrypted as encryption is decrypted once a server is running to ensure data is available to the system and users. However based on the physical security on the site, the fact Windows server firewalls are installed, and username password authentication applies to each school, your data is well secured within this environment and encrypted over SSL when being accessed over the internet.
Is my data backed up?
Backups occur in real time within the same data centre, and at most the maximum amount of data loss that could occur would be no more than the last 5 minutes.
Full disaster recovery backups are encrypted and are off-site and stored in a datacentre in Manchester. The Schools’ Intelligence application server is based in a datacentre in Dorset.
Is our data completely separated from other schools data?
Yes, data for each school is stored in totally different folders and QlikView databases.
