The Royal Naval Sailing Association
Appointment of an Events and Marketing Secretary
Introduction
The Royal Naval Sailing Association is looking for a new part time Events and Marketing Secretary to be
responsible for facilitating and planning sailing events.
The Royal Naval Sailing Club (RNSA) is a private members club that was founded by members of the Royal Navy
in 1935 at a general meeting with the principle objective of ‘encouraging sailing throughout the service’ which
endures to this day (see www.rnsa.org for further details). Membership includes serving and past Officers,
Ratings and other ranks of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines Reserve, Royal
Fleet Auxiliary and Commonwealth Naval Forces. Associate membership is offered to serving members and
veterans of the Army, RAF and Civil Service Sailing Associations.
The Association is ultimately governed by its Central Committee who set policy based upon the needs of the
members. The Events and Marketing Secretary will report to the RNSA General Secretary who works closely
with the Commodore, Chairman and elected Flag Officers to implement policy and manage all aspects of the
day to day running of the Association. All paid staff are employed by the RNSA Chairman. Member related
events take place seven days per week throughout the year and so the 20 hours a week role will require
flexibility to work some weekends, Bank Holidays and evenings. The ability to coordinate effectively with the
RNSA Flag Officers and the RNSA Branch Captains (RNSA has nine Branch geographically based organisations
around the UK from the Clyde to Falmouth which deliver sailing locally and are based where the RN operate
and have operated from) is essential for the smooth running of the activities that take place of which many are
run by member volunteers. The successful applicant will require a knowledge and understanding of running
sailing events.
