I have served in the leadership of ARMA for almost all of those twenty years, ten years on the chapter level, seven years in the region level and currently on the international level. I have done so, because I love this organization and its members. It is my honor and privilege to currently serve as a Director on the ARMA International Board of Directors. I would be honored to continue my service in the role of Association Treasurer. It is my desire to continue to play an active part in the advancement of our profession and our association. I also want to give back to the association that has given me great personal and professional growth and to the members who have helped and supported me for over two decades. I believe my experience in finances over my work career and as Treasurer of the Great Northwest Region of ARMA have given me the experience to take this next step. As an active board member, I will bring continuity to the board and the association. I will be ready to fully engage on day one as I am fully aware of the both the challenges and opportunities facing us. RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS POSED TO TREASURER CANDIDATES What strategic steps should ARMA take to support our profession’s place in the broader world of Information Governance? Information Governance is something many of us having been practicing for years whether we’ve called it that or not. We all know that to successfully manage records and information we need to work with IT, legal, risk, compliance, and security stakeholders. And we’ve always known that RIM is the foundation for governing information. But not everyone has acknowledged this. For the past several years, ARMA has worked very hard to establish itself as a leader in the emerging world of IG. But in order to do so, ARMA needed to move swiftly with a firm focus on the objective. Many of our members felt that ARMA had abandoned its RIM roots and was leaving them behind. Although it may have appeared so, that was never the intention. Last spring, the Board of Directors reviewed and decided to rewrite the vision, mission, and core purpose statements of the Association, putting to rest all doubts about who we are and what we do. We are the authority on Records and Information Management and a leader in Information Governance. What ARMA needs to do over the next 2 years is: Carry forth the message that RIM is the foundation of Information Governance. ARMA must reinforce this message until it is generally accepted throughout the industry and the world. Doing so will: o Solidify ARMA’s rightful place as a leader in the world of IG. o Bring greater acknowledgement and value to the programs and work that RIM professionals do every day. o Bring greater recognition to RIM professionals and value for our members. Continue to be the authority on Records and Information Management. o Providing education and resources to RIM professionals. o Promoting the CRM certification to our members interested in RIM. Continue to be a leader in IG. o Providing education and resources in information governance. o Promoting the IGP certification for members interested in pursuing an IG career. Describe your previous experience with financial analysis and budgeting as it relates to a business or volunteer operation. As a member of the board, I have participated in the budget process of the association. I served as Treasurer of the Great Northwest Region for three years and as Region Manager for four years. Employing strategic financial planning, the region was able to: o Establish a solid financial foundation for the region while nearly tripling the treasury. o Eliminate chapter assessments for region activities. o Continue to provide a biennial education conference with revenue sharing with the chapters. o Add scholarships and grants for chapters and region members to attend conferences.
