Organisational Context / Environment

The Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF) is an Australian registered charity whose mission is to protect and enhance women’s health by eliminating cervical cancer and enabling treatment for women with cervical cancer and related health issues, in Australia and in developing countries.

ACCF aims to create an effective, innovative and compassionate organisation and culture.

ACCF is a small organisation with seven, predominantly part time staff based in Brisbane and is dependent on the goodwill and support of volunteers and supporters to promote our preventative health measures and profile throughout Australia.

Purpose of Position

The Cervical Cancer Awareness presenters are responsible for delivering effective and engaging presentations on cervical cancer awareness and prevention, and the work of ACCF in our region and internationally . These presentations will be targeted to high school students at girls’, co-educational and boys’ schools around Australia in addition to local community groups as identified by ACCF.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

Delivering presentations

Public speaking at times to large audiences in a presentation that can range from 10-45 minutes.

Delivering and using prepared power point presentations.

Engaging with the audience including encouraging questions and interaction.

Representing the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation to the public in a professional and appropriate manner.

Committing to at least 4 presentations per year.

VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assisting to secure presentation bookings in your local area in consultation with the National

Community Engagement Manager.

Encouraging the audience to engage in fund raising and support for the work of the foundation.

Managing Feedback

Record informal feedback given by students and teachers about the presentation and return the feedback and any necessary follow-ups to the National Community Engagement Manager in a timely manner

Collateral Distribution

Responsibly sharing relevant samples of ACCF collateral for audience members and safely storing collateral for future presentations.

Any other duties

As identified and negotiated with the National Community Engagement Manager that fall within the brief of this role.

Key Internal Relationships

Responsible to the State Bookings & Volunteer Coordinator (first) and the National Community

Engagement Manager (second).

Close working relationships with all ACCF employees and volunteers.

Key External Relationships

Members of the public, particularly school staff, agency and community group representatives, health professionals and corporate sponsors if relevant to the presentation location.

Key Skills and Characteristics Required

High level of people skills with an ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences

Public speaking and presentation skills

Good communication skills and good knowledge of the English language

Well organised and willing to learn new skills

Reliable and punctual

Positive attitude and empathy for women with cervical cancer, and their families.

Valid drivers’ license.

General

An understanding or compassion for women’s health issues

Working with children check or ability to obtain one if required.

Willingness to work within ACCF Policies and Procedures and Guidelines.

Training

ACCF actively supports ongoing training for volunteers and professional development which will be discussed during performance reviews.

Managing Personal Expenses

ACCF Volunteers are responsible for sending through expense reimbursement forms at regular intervals to be reimbursed for travel expenses and parking/event related incidentals. Receipts and records need to be kept.

Decision Making and Authority

Works within the guidelines and parameters as defined with the National Community Engagement
