29 June at 10.00 am: Erica Johnson Debeljak Presents Her Prose
American-Slovene writer Erica Johnson Debeljak will give a bilingual presentation of her book about immigrating to the independent Slovenia in
1993 (Forbidden Bread / Prepovedani kruh). Under the chestnut tree at the
Ljubljana Castle, Johnson Debeljak will read an extract in English about her first ascent of the castle hill to view her new home in Central Europe together with her lover, a dark-haired writer. This will be followed by a reading in
Slovene by her daughter Klara, who will present an extract about the miraculous day just a few years later when she was born in the Ljubljana maternity hospital.
You are warmly invited to join the mother and daughter duet on a sunny summer morning.
