Diploma in General Studies Scholarships
The Diploma in General Studies Scholarships support students from disadvantaged
backgrounds to make the transition to university. Scholarships are designed to
contribute to the costs associated with beginning university, such as Student
Services and Amenities Fees, books, discipline-specific equipment and technological
devices.
Important information


Scholarship applications forms are available on the DiGS website:
www.FVAS.unimelb.edu.au
Scholarship applicants must also apply for a course place using the DiGS and
modified SEAS application.
Several Scholarships up to $5,000 in value are available for the Semester 1 2015
intake.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of rural status and low-SES, and to
indigenous students1.

The normal duration of
the Diploma in General
Studies: one year fulltime and 100 credit
points.
Eligibility
To be considered for a DiGS Scholarship you must:
 Be an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident or holder of a
permanent Humanitarian Visa; and
 Not have been awarded results in a course at a tertiary institution in Australia;
and
 Meet the criteria for entry to the Diploma in General Studies in 2015; and
 Enrol full-time in your course, unless documentary evidence for reasons why
you cannot enrol full-time is provided; and

Remain enrolled in the DiGS until after the Census date in each semester2.
In addition, depending on the type of scholarship for which you apply, you must:
Rural/Low-SES Scholarships
 Have a disadvantaged financial background as demonstrated by the modified
SEAS form submitted with your course application.
Indigenous Scholarship
 Be an Indigenous Australian.
Selection
Selection is based on documented disadvantage and preference is given to students
from the Hume region.
Application

For Semester 1 2015 intake, scholarship applications for the first round offers
close on Monday 12 January 2015, and for remaining offers close Wednesday
11 February 2015.
Outcome

Successful first round applicants will be e-mailed an offer on Wednesday
21January 2015, and successful applicants of remaining offers will be emailed
an offer by Wednesday 18 February 2014.
Deferring your scholarship


Scholarships cannot be deferred and must be taken up in the 2015 academic
year.
