The diocese is seeking an exceptional individual to provide the strategic leadership that will reshape our work with schools; offering professional advice and direction that supports high quality education, with specific attention to the primary sector. Job Description: To promote and support the improvement of teaching, learning and assessment and the raising of standards achieved by pupils, through the provision of support, innovation, creativity and challenge. To support schools in learning development, self-evaluation and best practice sharing. To monitor the performance of schools and, where necessary, challenge to ensure that schools set aspirational targets to raise achievement To broker intervention programmes to counter or prevent failure, in particular as lead professional for Askel Veur, the diocesan academy sponsor and Umbrella Trust. To support the Director of Education and Discipleship in providing high quality advice to Headteachers and Governors on staffing, curriculum, standards and legislation. To foster and inspire good relationships between clergy, parishes and schools, showing a passion for the mission of the Diocese in all schools. To develop effective partnerships with DfE, Local Authorities, Ofsted & HMI, Teaching Schools, FE & HE providers, and other school providers. To lead the development of high quality governance The Director for Schools will: Have substantial experience as a senior leader in a primary school and will have a good understanding of Local Authority and national government structures. Represent the Diocese on statutory committees and other bodies, deputising for the Diocesan Director of Education as required. Support the appointment, induction and mentoring of new Headteachers and Principals in Schools and Academies. Provide professional input into work with Multi-Academy Trusts and Askel Veur including serving as a Member and/ or Director of Multi - Academy Trusts Develop and lead an effective programme for professional development of education professionals, including initial teacher training, developing middle leaders, identifying and enabling potential senior leaders, and developing good governance. Take responsibility for keeping abreast of national education policy and its implication in the Diocese Attend Ofsted feedback Regularly review their own professional development and seek out development opportunities Line Management Responsibilities: Church Schools Development Officer Governance Development Officer Special notes & conditions: The post holder should be willing to undertake training when required.
