The Louise and Alan Edwards Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the inaugural
Catherine Bushnell Fellowship in Pain Research 2012. Robert Bonin, PhD., will be conducting his research under the supervision of Dr. Jeffrey Mogil, at the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on
Pain, McGill University and Dr. Yves De Koninck at Laval University.
Bonin’s research, entitled ‘Translational control of long-term potentiation of noxious afferent input to the superficial dorsal horn and sensitization of nociception’ will be addressing the role of synaptic plasticity and mRNA translation in the formation and maintenance of sensitization of nociception. His work focuses on deciphering the mechanisms that maintain the strength of synapses between primary nociceptive afferents and neurons of superficial dorsal horn nad how this modulates nociception.
The objective of this fellowship is to support full-time research conducted at the Alan Edwards Centre
for Research on Pain or the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at McGill University or another
Quebec Institution. Qualifying applicants will have completed a PhD, MD or comparable degree and have an interest in a full-time position conducting either clinical or basic pain research.
